The organization has a committee which is responsbile for the oversignt of its audited finanical statements and the selection of an independent accountant. This process has not changed from prior years.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

Pfd is exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. Accordingly, no provision for income taxes has been made in the accompanying financial statements. In addition, pfd has been classified by the internal revenue service as a public charity of the type described in sections 509(a)(1) and 170(b)(1)(a)(vi) of the internal revenue code and is not a private foundation. For the years ended december 31, 2015 and 2014, pfd has documented its consideration of fasb asc 740-10, income taxes, that provides guidance for reporting uncertainty in income taxes and has determined that no material uncertain tax positions qualify for either recognition or disclosure in the financial statements. The federal form 990, return of organization exempt from income tax, is subject to examination by the internal revenue service, generally for three years after it is filed.

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES INCLUDED: CAPACITY BUILDING, INFORMATION SHARING, EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATION, WITH A FOCUS ON REACHING OUT TO VULNERABLE AND UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS TO IMPROVE THEIR ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE. STARTING IN 2015, PFD IMPLEMENTED A GLOBAL FUND SUPPORTED "REGIONAL ARTEMISININ INITIATIVE" PROJECT WHICH TESTED AND MAPPED CASES OF MULTI DRUG RESISTANT MALARIA, PARTICULARLY AMONG MOBILE AND MIGRANT POPULATIONS (MMP). THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, PFD CONTINUED TO INCREASE COMMUNITY AWARENESS OF MALARIA BY OFFERING MALARIA HEALTH EDUCATION TRAININGS FOR VILLAGE HEALTH VOLUNTEERS AND FOR SCHOOL TEACHERS ON PFD'S CHILD-TO-CHILD (CTC) METHODOLOGY. PFD WORKED WITH MOBILE AND MIGRANT POPULATIONS (MMP) TO REDUCE THE SPREAD OF MALARIA, AS POPULATION MOVEMENTS ARE ONE OF THE MAIN FACTORS IN THE EMERGENCE AND SPREAD OF ANTIMALARIAL RESISTANT PARASITES. PFD ALSO TRAINED MOBILE MALARIA WORKERS AND PLANTATION WORKERS TO DISSEMINATE MALARIA INFORMATION, TREATMENT AND PREVENTION PACKAGES INCLUDING INSECTICIDE TREATED BED NETS. PFD RESEARCHERS CONDUCTED SURVEYS TO ENSURE COMMUNITY NEEDS WERE MET AND TO HELP GUIDE THE DIRECTIONS OF FUTURE PROGRAMMING.

IN 2015, GREEN'S MOBILE MESSAGING BASED VEGETABLE MARKET INFORMATION (VMIS) SYSTEM DELIVERED MARKET INFORMATION DIRECTLY TO OVER 2,000 FARMERS. THIS SYSTEM ENABLES PRODUCERS, PROCESSORS, WHOLESALE BUYERS, AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS TO ACCESS REAL-TIME MARKET INFORMATION. TECHNICAL EXTENSIONS AND TRAININGS COVERED TOPICS ON PRODUCING TO MEET MARKET DEMAND, REDUCING CHEMICAL PESTICIDE ABUSE, IMPROVING POST-HARVEST HANDLING, AND TESTING SOLAR-POWERED IRRIGATION PUMPS. CREDIT BENEFICIARIES OF THE PROJECT SAW A 161% INCREASE IN THEIR NET INCOME. IN SEPTEMBER OF 2015 PFD ALSO SIGNED A FIVE YEAR GRANT AGREEMENT WITH USDA FOR THE PINEAPPLE PROCESSING FOR EXPORT (PINEX) PROJECT IN BENIN, WITH ACTIVITIES TO BEGIN IN 2016.
