During the past year, nei has worked on over 80 existing building projects totaling more than 360 buildings and 6,000 units of housing.”
“In 2014, nei operated the following other programs: greening the construction of affordable housing - nei engages and supports community development corporations, community-based organizations, and other developers of affordable housing in environmentally sound green development. Under this program, nei is setting the standard for healthy, durable, energy and water efficient housing. Nei provides direct services, and education and training to owners, developers, architects, contractors, and financers of this housing to implement features and construction practices that directly benefit the low income residents of this housing, reduce operating costs, improve health outcomes, and mitigate risk in operations. Nei trains residents to understand and take advantage of the benefits of green housing, and disseminates lessons learned to others in the field. In 2014 nei's new construction division worked on approximately 24 (out of 39 total) different projects that resulted in over 1,500 units of affordable housing being made more healthy, durable, and energy efficient. Urban farming institute of boston/city growers - through april 1, 2014, nei served as the fiscal sponsor of a local organization (pending award of its 501(c)(3) designation) to transform vacant lots in boston into intensive urban farms that are economically and environmentally sustainable.”
