Mission

The mission of new ecology, inc. Is to catalyze sustainable development and bring its benefits to underserved populations, and to maintain a focus on acting locally to address global environmental issues. We work in many areas of community-based sustainable development, but we devote most of our efforts to green affordable housing. Our focus is on the practical and cost-effective: making new and existing buildings efficient, durable and healthy.

We work in many areas of community-based sustainable development, but we devote most of our efforts to green affordable housing. Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Field. In 2013, nei worked on approximately 27 different projects that resulted in over 1,200 units of affordable housing being made more healthy, durable, and energy efficient.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4C

Remotely monitoring the energy consumption in affordable buildings, assisted owners on maximizing their rebates from utilities, and worked to make affordable projects that are being refinanced or rehabbed more efficient. Approximately 2,000 units of affordable housing were improved due to the efforts of nei.

In 2013, nei operated the following other programs: urban farming institute of boston/city growers - the organization is working with a local organization to transform vacant lots in boston into intensive urban farms that are economically and environmentally sustainable. Nei serves as the fiscal sponsor of the effort pending award of 501(c)3 designation. Consulting services - the organization provides consulting services to non-profit and for-profit clients in the area of sustainable development, green building, and integrated design. One major accomplishment was the completion of a template for assisting affordable housing developers choose green architects.
