Mission

ODC Theater exists to empower and develop innovative artists through commissioning, presenting, mentorship, and space access; it develops informed, engaged and committed audiences; and advocates for the performing arts as an essential component to the economic and cultural development of our community. Dedicated to the lifecycle of the artistic process, ODC Theater aims to inspire audiences, cultivate artists, engage community, and foster diversity and inclusion through dance.

Founded in 1976, ODC Theater exists to empower and develop innovative artists by participating in the creation of new works through presenting, mentorship and access.

There are two board members who are husband and wife.

Form 990, Part VI, Line 11B: Form 990 Review Process

The tax returns are prepared by an outside accounting firm. After completion of said returns, the organization is sent a draft of the tax returns to be reviewed and examined. The organization distributes copies of the complete returns to the board of directors. If all items are found to be acceptable, an authorization is signed and provided to the outside accounting firm to process, sign and provide copies of the returns to be filed (paper or electronically) with the designated governmental agencies. The tax returns are then signed by the organization, stamped with certified return receipt and timely placed in the mail for filing, or the form 8879 is provided to the outside accounting firm allowing electronic filing.

Form 990, Part VI, Line 12C: Explanation of Monitoring and Enforcement of Conflicts

Hiring or contracting is done using established HR policies. To ensure that ODC monitors areas for potential conflict of interest, committees are used to hire staff and/or contract with outside service providers. No one person in the organization can contract or hire any individual without the consent of the ED, AD and the Finance Manager. Any conflicts of interest found are brought to the attention of the Board for further action.

ODC Theater is exempt from federal and state income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and Section 23701(d) of the California Revenue and Taxation Code. ODC Theater has adopted the accounting guidance related to uncertain tax positions, and has evaluated its tax positions and believes that all of the positions taken by ODC Theater in its federal and state exempt organization tax returns are more likely than not to be sustained upon examination.

IRS990/Desc0ODC Theater, currently under the leadership of Christy Bolingbroke, is a nationally recognized incubator for emerging and mid-career artists through our residency and mentorship programs; presenting over 150 performances each year; commissioning new work; and providing comprehensive technical assistance to the artists and service to the field.-A Resident Artist program provides three-year support to four mid-career dance artists. Current ODC Theater resident artists are: Gerald Casel, Maurya Kerr, Nicole Klaymoon, and choreographic duo Sheldon Smith and Lisa Wymore.-Curating the countrys most important dance ideas for 35 years and serving as a key portal to the West Coast, ODC has presented historical debuts of luminaries like Eiko & Koma, Bill T. Jones, and Sarah Michelson; and more recently presented John Heginbotham, Andrea Miller (Gallim Dance), Emily Johnson, and BODYTRAFFIC.-ODC Theater produces 14 Creative Campus Programming events each year. This campus-wide platform allows professional artists to share the creative process with audiences; mentors up-and-coming artists in the art of self- production; or invites recreational dancers to have a professional performing experience.
