Long-term professional counseling services are facilitated by shelter advocates to partner victims with the local agency of their choice. In 2017, forbes house made an unquestionable impact in lake county and surrounding communities by providing to 1,134 survivors of domestic violence - 20,253 shelter services, counseling sessions (peer and licensed) 1,820, and 222 outreach presentations to 6,280 participants. “Forbes house is exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code (the "code") as a charitable organization whereby only unrelated business income, as defined by section 509(a)(1) of the code, is subject to federal income tax. Forbes house currently has no unrelated business income. Accordingly, no provision for income taxes has been recorded. Forbes house's policy is to record a liability for any tax position taken that is beneficial to forbes house, including penalties and interest, when it is more likely than not the position taken will be overturned by a taxing authority upon examination. Management believes there are no such positions as of december 31, 2017 and, accordingly, no liability has been accrued.”
