“Clefworks is a music outreach program designed to promote the education and enjoyment of chamber music through a series of performances in the montgomery area. During clefworks 2019-20 season, we fostered the appreciation of chamber music, hired classically trained musicians, hosted educational concerts, and celebrated a culture of music appreciation in montgomery, alabama. Throughout the academic year we visited 5 schools and other non-profits including the fumc alzheimer's ministry and jasmine hill. The students served at these various events ranged in ages from kindergarten through high school, with a focus on children under 13 in title i schools. For these outreach events, we hired 14 alabama musicians and 7 musicians from texas and wisconsin. In may, we pivoted to video production, hiring several musicians to produce educational videos - what is a string quartet? And what is a harpsichord? That are featured on our youtube channel and shared with area teachers. During our annual cleffest in january, we had a "multi-string quartet" conduct a week's worth of outreach activities around the city. Funding from community and foundation grants allowed us to host invoke, an award-winning member of chamber music america and a truly innovative ensemble. In addition to being masters of the instruments of a traditional string quartet, they also incorporate the banjo and the mandolin into their creative arrangements and new compositions. This ensemble spent the week engaging the community, visiting schools and sharing their talents with a broad audience. Their final concert was held in a gallery of the montgomery museum of fine arts to a diverse crowd. 2019-20 cleffest included 6 educational components, sharing the educational concerts with students and teachers alike. The festival featured 14 paid guest musicians, 35 volunteers, and clefworks part-time executive director.”
