“Clefworks is a music outreach program designed to promote the education and enjoyment of chamber music through a series of performances in the montgomery area. During clefworks 2017 season, we brought musicians to over 4,200 people in montgomery. Throughout the academic year we visited 10 schools and 6 other non-profits, including the cancer center, alzheimer's ministry and brantwood children's home. The students served at these various events ranged in ages from kindergarten to college, with a focus on children under 13. For these school events, we hired 11 alabama musicians and one visiting fellow with the montgomery symphony. During our annual cleffest in march, there was one ticketed performance, in addition to our visits to five schools. The catalyst quartet, a sphinx ensemble from new york, was brought to montgomery through arts grants. This ensemble spent the week engaging the community, visiting schools and sharing their talents with a broad audience. Their final concert was held in a historic city hall to a diverse audience of all ages and experiences. During the performance, a local artist completed a live-painting of the event. The winner of the 2017 composition competition, roger briggs, was on hand for the premier of his piece entitled "friction", a new work composed for string quartet. Cleffest included 6 educational components shared with students and teachers alike. The festival featured 9 paid guest musicians, 35 volunteers, and clefworks part-time executive director.”
