The Alliance for Peacebuilding's mission is threefold: Innovate - We cultivate innovation in the field of peacebuilding by accelerating and integrating new concepts and approaches through inventive and collaborative programming that pushes the boundaries of traditional peacebuilding and effectiveness. Impact - We prove the impact of peacebuilding by encouraging a culture of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) across the field - developing more rigorous M&E methods and fostering a culture of openness and accountability. Influence - We influence the broader peacebuilding field by fostering an understanding of systemic approaches to peacebuilding and conflict resolution, and ensuring they are integrated into the programs and policies of governments and donors, international agencies, and non-government organizations; and by shifting public awareness and promoting social action through the use of media to effectively convey peacebuilding and conflict resolution messages.
The Alliance for Peacebuilding is a leader in developing and disseminating innovative approaches to peacebuilding, catalyzing collaboration between related fields including development, relief, human rights, democracy, security sector reform, media, neuroscience, and others. AfP connects its members and civil society actors from around the world with US policymakers and broad international policy initiatives. AfP is a global membership association of 100 peacebuilding organizations, 1,000 professionals, and a network of more than 15,000 people developing processes for change in the most complex, chaotic conflict environments in the US and around the world. AfP amplifies the strengths of its members and works collaboratively on issues that are too large for any one organization to tackle by itself. | IRS990/Desc | 0 | Peacebuilding Evaluation Consortium: AfP and USIP expanded The Peacebuilding Evaluation Project in 2013 to form the Peacebuilding Evaluation Consortium (PEC), which includes: Besa: Catalyzing Change, Mercy Corps, CDA Collaborative Learning Projects, and Search for Common Ground as its core partners. Made possible with support from the Carnegie Corporation of New York and the GHR Foundation, the Consortium is building off the existing network of its core members and the field as a whole, creating significant value for the field through three strategic and reinforcing initiatives: 1. Developing Methodological Rigor through the following activities: a Network for Peacebuilding Evaluation: the NPF links disparate evaluation research and connects evaluators and practitioners through an online community of practice on the DM&E for Peace Learning Portal. b) M&E Tool Development: evaluation experts are working with the consortium to develop rigorous, but accessible evaluation tools that can be applied in various contexts. c) Skills & Training: to increase familiarity of DM&E and to foster evaluation skills. d) Case Studies on Impact Evaluations: two case studies are being developed, researched, and written about two randomized control trials taking place in Sierra Leone. 2. Improving the Culture of Evaluation and Shared Learning through the following activities: a) The Learning Portal for DM&E for Peacebuilding is an online platform designed to be the hub of evaluation and learning, information, and dissemination for peacebuilding donors, implementers, and analysts. b) Thursday Talks, online, reflective discussions between academics, evaluators and practitioners on pressing issues within the field of peacebuilding evaluation. The talks take place bi-weekly and welcome participants from the DM&E community and broader field on a range of topics relevant to effective peacebuilding learning and evaluation work. 3. Effective Inter-religious Action in Peacebuilding Program (EIAP): Made possible with funding from the GHR foundation, the EIAP is an exciting 3-year initiative aimed at improving evaluation practices of inter-religious peacebuilding, at a time when religious difference are often used to fan the flames of violence. Driven by an interactive, whole-of-field process, the EIAP will involve key, diverse stakeholders in all aspects of its work to address the central challenges of inter-religious action in the development of a new guide on appropriate evaluation tools and methodologies for inter-religious action. |
