The Alliance for Peacebuilding's mission is threefold: Innovate - We cultivate innovation in the field of peacebuilding by accelerating and integrating new concepts and approaches through inventive and collaborative programming that pushes the boundaries of traditional peacebuilding and effectiveness. Impact - We prove the impact of peacebuilding by encouraging a culture of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) across the field - developing more rigorous M&E methods and fostering a culture of openness and accountability. Influence - We influence the broader peacebuilding field by fostering an understanding of systemic approaches to peacebuilding and conflict resolution, and ensuring they are integrated into the programs and policies of governments and donors, international agencies, and non-government organizations; and by shifting public awareness and promoting social action through the use of media to effectively convey peacebuilding and conflict resolution messages.
Our vision is a world where each person feels secure, dignified, and included, a world where people build peace and manage conflict without violence.

“Afp's membership is a coalition of organizations and professionals around the world working together to enhance the impact and effectiveness of the peacebuilding community.”
“Afp organization members have the power to elect or appoint one or more members of the governing body.”
“The afp membership manual states: the designated representative (dr) is the duly authorized agent of an organization for the purpose of participating in afp decision-making structures and governance (e.g., the annual conference, committee membership, board elections, etc). Member organizations should be represented in afp's governance by principals of the organizations (e.g., ceos or directors of programs or divisions charged with carrying out the organization's international peacebuilding work).”
“The return was prepared by an outside independent accounting firm, and then reviewed and approved by the executive director of the organization. A copy of the return was distributed to the entire board prior to filing with the irs.”
“All procurements: when the value of an awarded contract or purchase is greater than 500 us dollars or if it is a recurring payment monthly/yearly must be put out to bid by developing a solicitation and publicly advertised or if not publicly advertised at least three bids must be secured. Afp allows sole sourcing when the following conditions are met: the source has a unique capability, expertise, facilities or equipment that no other source can provide; the order is for follow-on work for continued development or enhancement; an unusual or compelling urgency exists that would result in a significant negative impact to the organization if there is a delay in approval; the identified source is acknowledged to be the leader in its field of expertise as demonstrated in reputable and valid literature, symposia presentations, etc. Justification for sole source is required. All procurements in excess of $500 must be approved by the executive director/deputy executive director and filed. Staff and board of directors are required to sign a conflict-of-interest statement. Each year staff is trained in what is a conflict of interest and during a regular board meeting each year, the executive director discusses with the board members any potential conflicts of interest and board members are asked to notify the executive director and/or the board chairperson of any conflicts of interest. Interested persons are recused from the discussion and the vote for any transaction in which they have a conflict. The following procurement method is used when the value of an awarded contract or purchase is greater than 500 us dollars or if it is a recurring payment monthly/yearly: completion of document for approval and attach it to the invoice or put it in the receipt folder if there is another form of payment including credit card, wire transfer etc. 1. Please list the contract or purchase: 2. Please list the class code for the purchase: 3. Please provide a justification for the procurement: 4. Develop a solicitation, request for quote, etc; please fill out either a and/or b. A. Competition please list all quotes received. (minimum of three are required) b. Please list all outlets where the solicitation was advertised.”
“The board of directors discusses and approves the compensation of the executive director using comparability data from similar organizations. The other officers are evaluated by the executive director, who sets compensation using a salary scale and information from publicly available nonprofit tax returns. The processes are documented in writing.”
“The organization makes its governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements available to the public upon request.”
“The alliance is generally exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the u.s. Irc, and has not been classified as a private foundation. Consequently, there is no provision for income taxes. The alliance had no unrelated business income for the years ended december 31, 2024 and 2023. The alliance adopted the provisions of fasb asc topic 740 accounting for uncertainty in income taxes, having no significant impact on its financial statements. The provisions clarify the accounting for uncertainty in income taxes recognized in an organization's financial statements. Management believes it has taken no uncertain tax positions that require disclosure.”

SECURING MUTUAL INTEGRATION OF THE PREVENTION-ORIENTED CANON OF LAW ACROSS THE GFA, ELIE WIESEL GENOCIDE AND ATROCITIES PREVENTION ACT, AND THE WOMEN, PEACE, AND SECURITY ACT. AFP CONTINUED TO ACHIEVE NOTABLE SUCCESSES IN ADVANCING THE INTEGRATION OF THE U.S. PREVENTION-ORIENTED CANON OF LAWTHE GLOBAL FRAGILITY ACT (GFA), THE ELIE WIESEL GENOCIDE AND ATROCITIES PREVENTION ACT (EWGAPA), AND THE WOMEN, PEACE, AND SECURITY (WPS) ACT. AFP CONTINUED TO COLEAD THE GFA COALITION WITH MERCY CORPS, A COALITION OF OVER 350 MEMBERS THAT SERVES AS THE U.S. GOVERNMENT'S GO-TO CIVIL SOCIETY PARTNER. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, AFP CONVENED A SERIES OF CONSULTATIONS TO ASSESS AND PROVIDE RECOMMENDATIONS ON SUCCESSFUL GFA OPERATIONALIZATION. THE FIRST REPORT TO CONGRESS REQUIRED UNDER THE LAW SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED THE IMPACT OF THE GFA COALITION. 2024 MARKED THE SECOND YEAR OF AFP'S LEADERSHIP OF THE PREVENTION AND PROTECTION WORKING GROUP (PPWG), A COALITION DEDICATED TO IMPROVING U.S. GOVERNMENT POLICIES AND CIVILIAN CAPACITIES TO AVERT AND RESPOND TO MASS ATROCITIES AND PROTECT CIVILIANS, WHICH GREW BY OVER 100 MEMBERS DURING THE YEAR.
