“In 2020, oet completed a 4-month field seasoncomprised of eight expeditions in the eastern pacific aboard e/v nautilus for a total of 106 operational days. The e/vnautilusbegan off the coast of san pedro, california and mapped parts of west coast national marine sanctuaries to sidney, b.c., where we worked with our partners at ocean networks canada and the university of victoria at the cabled ocean observatory off the west coast of canada. We conducted a series of expeditions in the olympic coast, greater farallones, channel islands, andmonterey bay national marine sanctuaries to aid in characterization of these protectedareas. Oet also worked with academic partners at scripps institute of oceanography and oregon state university on exploration of environments relating to the blue economy including ecosystem services at methane seep environments and biological communities associated with rare earth mineral-rich areas.all exploration programs took advantage of our telepresence capabilities and extensive education and outreach network to reach broad audiences.”
