FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

Capacitar international provides holistic health and wellness education for people suffering from stress or trauma as a result of civil, domestic and political violence, natural disasters, illness, such as cancer and hiv/aids, and poverty both within the u.s. And internationally. It produces and, where applicable, produces and translates training manuals, dvds and other learning materials.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 2

Yes, because of the pandemic and the covid lockdown in many countries, capacitar had to adapt its program and website design to respond to the challenges in its us and global outreach. The website (www.capacitar.org) was redesigned to offer capacitar practices. Wellbeing bulletins and short videos were made in 5 different languages that people around the world could download and use for physical and emotional symptoms they were experiencing in their families because of covid. Other videos and capacitar resources were also made available for download to support different communities around the world. Zoom classes were developed by capacitar teams in many countries. Ongoing trainings were also developed for zoom.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 3

Yes, as of march 2020, because of covid restrictions, in-person trainings were not permitted. So capacitar adapted its work of trauma healing to grow its outreach to needy communities through zoom and other uses of the internet. Printed materials and manuals in dirrerent languages were donated to groups and pdf manuals were sent out espcially to groups with few resources.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

International program: in 2020, in spite of the covid pandemic, capacitar international teams still facilitated over hundreds of workshops for thousands of people via zoom technology with many more thousands benefiting from the popular education multiplier effect. Trainers took on the leadership to work in many countries including: the usa (california, texas, arizona, oregon and ohio), canada, mexico, el salvador, guatemala, nicaragua, panama, argentina, haiti, ireland, northern ireland, scotland, england, wales, germany, israel, japan, the philippines, indonesia and parts of africa. Participants were either grassroots leaders or professionals who work with communities and organizations who are committed to healing and transforming people who are impacted by stress, political and domestic violence, natural disasters, trauma and illness (cancer, hiv/aids and disabilities). Manuals and training materials were produced, published and translated. The capacitar website was redesigned to offer covid response materials and videos, and make availbale many more healing resources in different languages.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4B

General program: in 2020 capacitar programs nationally and internationally served thousands of people from 20 countries and 5 us states. Because of the popular education methodology and multiplier impact, many thousands more received the benefit of learning the capacitar practices in all of the countries served. In june, the capacitar special projects coordinator was a key presenter at a peace conference sponsered by aachen university in germany, featuring holistic approaches to peace making. The conference involved over 100 participants, professors and students from the school of social work, sociology and psychology. Disaster response and gender violence healing: zoom or internet outreach trauma trainings were offered by capacitar teams in indonesia and the philippines in response to the typhoons and other disasters. In african countries-dr congo, rwanda, tanzania, and south sudan-trauma healing trainings were offered to women and youth who are dealing with trauma and gender violence. Outreach also continued in chihuahua, mexico, and quiche', guatemala to heal gender violence. Zoom trainings in refugee accompaniment continued to be offered in the us-in cincinnati, oh; in tucson, az and at the texas, mexico border in el paso and cuidad juarez.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4C

National program: california: in 2020 capacitar continued to offer the following programs in california. Zoom trainings, originally started as in-person trainings at holy spirit retreat center, encino, ca, were completed with participants coming from local organizations, work with the elderly and disabled, schools, teachers, mental health programs, women's groups, youth at risk, work with refugees and indigenous people, and outreach to refugees, immigrants and the needy in southern california. Zoom support groups were initiated several days a week to respond to the needs of persons impacted by the pandemic. Trainings via zoom, initiated in-person in january 2020, continued at the us/mexico border (el paso/juarez) coordinated by capacitar en la frontera for persons working to heal the violence and trauma of the region, work in detention centers and with refugees. Trainings were offered via zoom in tucson az, through el rio health center and the capacitar arizona team focused on self-care for nurses and professionals working with children and youth at risk. Study groups continue to meet and do outreach in tucson. In ohio, capacitar zoom support groups were offered, along with zoom trainings for those working with refugees.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4D

Significant other developments: because of the covid lockdowns in many countries, local leadership stepped forward and developed their own zoom workshops, support groups and trainings. This greatly increased the local outreach in some of the places of greatest need because of the trauma of covid deaths, grief and depression among many, loss of homes and employment. Education and training materials: advanced training materials continue to be developed and translated for work in many countries. Capacitar methods continue to be incorporated in human rights self-care manuals, and self-care materials for caregivers.
