“Capacitar international provides holistic health and wellness education for people suffering from stress or trauma as a result of civil, domestic and political violence, natural disasters, illness, such as cancer and hiv/aids, and poverty both within the u.s. And internationally. It produces and, where applicable, produces and translates training manuals, dvds and other learning materials.”

“Translated into a variety of languages: kinyarwandan, swahili, bahasa indonesian, haitian creole, hebrew, arabic, korean and japanese. Trainings continued in haiti with several key organizations, along with the development of leaders for haitian outreach. In central african republic and dr congo trainings were initiated for women, refugees, religious, grassroots leaders and organizations working for peace. Training developed in panama with outreach to organizations working to heal gender violence and those working with refugees. In uganda, trainings were offered to grassroots and development groups working with former child soldiers and groups working with hiv/aids. Training continued in guatemala under the auspices of the barbara ford peace center in quiche. In juarez, mexico, trainings were developed for persons doing community outreach for those impacted by the trauma of drug cartel violence, and included representatives from human rights offices and families of the disappeared. University-level capacitar courses were offered in dublin, ireland; rwanda; oakland and santa barbara, california.”

“Trauma of the region. The capacitar border network continues to be developed with persons working in outreach in el paso/juarez, mcallen/reynoso, texas; new mexico; tucson, arizona/nogales, mexico; and san diego/tijuana. A team is being mentored in el paso, texas as capacitar en la frontera. Ongoing workshops are offered at the el paso detention center and in el paso jails, as well as in centro san vicente, a center serving poor latinos. A course for social workers in capacitar methods was offered at university of texas, el paso utep by team members. Regular workshops and meetings are coordinated by the capacitar en la frontera team as outreach develops. A training continued in cincinnati, oh, at transfiguration spirituality center with persons doing outreach to women at risk, the elderly and other community efforts. Workshops were offered in tucson, az to persons working with refugees and persons in detention.”

“Education and training materials: manuals and training materials continued to be developed in many languages: english, spanish, french, portuguese, kinyarwandan, swahili, bahasa indonesian, tetum, haitian creole, hebrew, arabic, korean and japanese. New packets of materials for advanced trainings have been developed for: scotland, ireland and israel to offer ongoing mentoring to teams in these countries. Capacitar materials and methods have been incorporated into a number of programs in different countries, including materials for self care for activists, human rights defenders in panama, mexico and norway.”
