“Archives: the tfa architectural archives continue to be our greatest asset with major collections of renowned architects, including the original hand-drawn designs of koberling, forsyth and senter. The collection contains nearly 1000 sets of drawings and artifacts from a variety of building sites in the tulsa area. Currently, there are 1,663 items digitized using the equipment secured with save america's treasures grant funding. In 2014, we provided prints of plans and research information for hillcrest hospital by architect leon senter, temple israel synagogue by architect john t. Blair, the butler residence by architect donald mccormick, and the meadow gold neon sign on historic route 66. Matt king, former tfa board president and member volunteer, has consistently helped organize the collection and assist in providing prints to building owners and architects. The family of tulsa landscape architect ansel hull, asla, donated over 150 drawings to the archives in 2014. The collection includes beautifully rendered original color drawings of projects he designed for the city of tulsa.”
“Tour planning: "deco meets modern", our annual membership appreciation event, was hosted at the newly restored art deco "fleeger residences". The event raised over 6000, with 150 members attending, including 103 new members. Modern tulsa committee hosted two "mod of the moment" open houses at the loucks & andrews residences. These well preserved mid-century homes received excellent press and brought over 300 attendees to view the homes. Tfa is participating in "explore downtown" program for school children sponsored by the george kaiser family foundation. This year we have provided walking tours of downtown for five different school groups, for age groups ranging from 3rd to 7th grade. For the younger children the tour points out all of the animals hidden in the cast stone and terra-cotta building ornamentation, gargoyles and entry canopies. The "dwell in the idl" tour featured seven residential properties downtown within the inner dispersal loop. This annual event was a great success; it was attended by 448 people and netted over 6,000 from ticket sales and tulsa art deco book sales. The tour was well publicized due to pre-event interviews and tours by the events committee. 2nd saturday, a monthly walking tour of downtown initiated last year, continues to be very popular. We have distributed brochures and posters to all of the downtown hotels, as well as advertising in newspapers and social media, and the attendance has doubled from last year to an average of 50 persons each month.”
“Newsletter & publications: we continue to market and distribute our publication, tulsa art deco, as well as the laminated companion, decoguide, through local bookstores and museum shops, advantage amazon books, and our enhanced website tfa store: www.tulsaarchitecture.com.
