Part III Line 28 (Science-Art Contests & Tours) 1) STEAM Your Science (https://www.hou.usra.edu/meetings/lpsc2018/STEAM/gallery/#nav ) SciArt Exchange teamed with the Lunar and Planetary Institute on a STEAM Your Science Competition for attendees at the 49th Lunar and Planetary Science Conference in March 2018. We challenged conference abstract-submitting scientists to capture the essence and importance of their research in a publicly-engaging way through visual, literary, musical, or video art. Meeting attendees then evaluated the finalists and selected the winners. For both the artists and the voters, the activity emphasized the importance and challenges of communicating science to a broad audience.

2) NASA Commercial Crew Program Childrens Calendar Contest (https://www.nasa.gov/feature/commercial-crew-2019-artwork-calendar ) In partnership with the NASA Commercial Crew Program, SciArt Exchange executed a calendar contest for children aged 4-12. 833 entries were received from over 30 countries. The completed calendar was posted online in December 2017 so that it could be accessible to anyone worldwide, spreading interest and excitement about human space exploration.

Pt VI, Line 3

3) New Horizons Ultima Thule Art Campaign (http://pluto.jhuapl.edu/Ultima-Art/ ) In partnership with the New Horizons spacecraft mission team, SciArt Exchange executed a visual art campaign for children aged K-12. This very brief (2 week) contest asked the children to imagine what the Kuiper Belt object nicknamed Ultima Thule would look when the New Horizons spacecraft flew by, building excitement for and educating about the mission and its scientific work.

Other

4) NASA Project Mars Competition (www.ProjectMarsCompetition.org ) In partnership with NASA, SciArt Exchange executed a global film and poster contest about the human exploration of Mars. It aimed to encourage broad participation in thinking and learning about and contributing to the future of human space exploration. The contest had 589 participants and the top winners of the poster and film awards received $30,995, collectively. In order to use the received artwork to amplify the educational benefits, SciArt Exchange developed and tracked over 25 tour events so that over 1,000,000 people experienced the artwork in-person so far. SciArt Exchange will continue to support additional artwork touring events through 2020 to continue to educate and engage the public in space exploration. This dialogue about space, science and technology is also amplified through social media.

Other

5) Humans in Space Youth Art Competition (www.HumansInSpaceArt.org) SciArt Exchange develop a plan to create and implement a recurring international, multimedia Humans in Space Youth Art Competition for children aged 10-18 years old. Staff worked on identifying the strategy and sponsorship required in 2018. The plan is to open the first Youth Art Competition early in 2019 with a theme about What will people do on the Moon and why is it important. This theme was chosen to amplify the educational value of many events occurring in 2019 in honor of the 50th anniversary of the first footstep on the Moon July 20th. Plan also began to identify key artwork tour events where the multimedia artwork would be woven into displays and performances to engage listeners and viewers in learning about space, science and technology in the 2nd half of 2019.

Other

Part III Line 29 (In Person Science Communication, Creativity, and Teamwork Training) SciArt Exchange continued to research, create, and present materials through lectures, exhibits, handson, and workshop formats to help train in-person participants in science communication, creativity and teamwork using art-integration techniques.------------------------------------------------ Part III-Line 30 (Online Community-Accessible Materials) SciArt Exchange continues to offer articles, webinars, and live-streamed events as online resources about the value of Science-Technology-Engineering-Art-Math (STEAM) Education. The nonprofit also has multiple social media platforms where it encourages interest in space, science and technology and discusses the value of integrating science and art to foster communication, creativity and teamwork.
