“Other: Part III Line 28 (Community Development and Online Resources)”

“SciArt Exchange continues to offer articles, webinars, live-streamed events and activities as online resources about the value of Science-Technology-Engineering-Art-Math (STEAM) Education and Practice. A huge activity for 2020 was the brand new Design Your habitat Campaign (https://www.sciartex.net/design-your-habitat.html), initiated to support our community during social distancing. It was also the pilot initiation of a new nonprofit program, the Xpand Your Horizon Challenges, designed to contact our community more frequently and enhance our impact. The Challenge provided numerous online resources, like video podcasts and activities, including STEAM-based student and teacher remote lesson plans. The nonprofit also has multiple social media platforms where it encourages interest in space, science and technology and discusses the value of integrating science and art to foster comunication, innovation, and teamwork.”

“1) NASA Commercial Crew Program Children's Calendar Art Contest”

“In partnership with the NASA Commercial Crew Program, SciArt Exchange executed a calendar contest for children aged 4-12. 1,620 entries were received from 34 countries. The completed 2020 calendar was posted online in December 2020 to be accessible worldwide, spreading interest and excitement about human space exploration.”

“2) Events”

“Since 2020 was affected by social distancing requirements, SciArt Exchange engaged heavily in virtual displays and events, sharing artwork from various activities and their experience. Some displays were still in person, especially early in 2020, such as at the University of Houston O'Kane Gallery, the Lunar and Planetary Institute, the NASA Human Research Program's Investigator's Workshop, and the "Space for Art" installation at the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa, FL. Beginning in March and beyond, however, all events were virtual, such as the Humans to Mars Conference Creative Stage; Pumps and Pipes; REMOTE K12 Teacher Connect; and Rave to the Moon.”

“3) Training”

“SciArt Exchange continued to present materials through lectures, hands-on, and workshop formats to help train participants in science communication, creativity and teamwork using art-integration techniques, but these materials were presented largely virtually. Because of our ability to work totally remotely during 2020, SciArt Exchange also doubled the number of interns we mentored and trained in 2020, contributing to the career development of students, while also boosting the frequency of the nonprofit's online offerings. We also engaged in a program to mentor at risk middle school girls with Space Center Houston.”

“The nonprofit maintained its administrative duties and expenses, such as insurance and web hosting, and engaged in fundraising to gain grants and donations to support our programs.”
