Additional Explanations

Form 990, Page 1, Part I, Line 6

We have 4 primary sources of volunteer help: 1) volunteermatch: since 2015, we have connected with over 300 volunteers via volunteermatch.volunteers are usually event-specific, for example, assistance at outreach events, fundraising galas and the monthly walk-in clinics. 2) service organizations: these include the young men's service league who provide volunteers for parades and for special projects such as letter writing or toy collection, and the young marines who provide guidance for elderly or compromised veterans at events. 3) corporate supporters: local businesses will often offer opportunities for their employees to volunteer for a day at a nonprofit of their choice. We currently work with several businesses who provide paid employee "volunteer" days including elevations credit union and kohls. 4) staff members: our staff members regularly volunteer for homeless veteran stand down events, yellow ribbon post deployments, parades, and other outreach events.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Healing warriors program utilizes a non-narcotic, 4 pillared approach of integrative care to serve the health and mental wellness needs of veterans, active duty military, and their families. Healing warriors program services includes care coordination assistance in order to connect military families with other agencies and nonprofits that provide for adjunct care needs. Currently, healing warriors program maintains a matrix of over 300 agencies and programs that can assist service member families with a variety of wrap-around services. Overuse of narcotic medications has been shown to increase suicide risk, prompting the veterans administration to issue directive 1137 establishing the use of integrative and complementary care approaches in va medical institutions. As of 12/31/2022, healing warriors program has delivered over 29,000 clinic sessions assisting service member families with a variety of conditions including pain management, trauma, addiction management, cancer and various neurological conditions. Healing warriors program has been the recipient of many prestigious awards in recognition of the importance that healing warriors plays in veterans and their families lives. Among hwp's greatest honors has been to receive the newman's own 2018 award where healing warriors program was chosen as 1 of 5 veteran nonprofits nationally to be honored at the pentagon and presented with the award by the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, general joseph dunford. In 2021, hwp executive director, ana yelen, won 3 prestigious awards, the 2021 bizwest media-women of distinction awards for non-profits, the 2021 bizwest notable women in non-profits and the aarp 2022 purpose prize fellows award.

Cumulative effect adjustment -13,112 "cumulative effect of asc topic 842 adoption and policy elections-the organization elected the optional transition method and adopted asu no. 2016-02 as of january 1, 2022, using the modified retrospective method permitted under asu no. 2018-11 for all existing leases, which does not include retrospectively adjusting prior periods presented in the financial statements. As allowed under the new accounting standard, the organization elected to apply practical expedients to carry forward the original lease determinations, leases classifications and accounting of initial direct costs for all asset classes at the time of adoption. The organization also elected not to separate lease components from non-lease components and to exclude short-term leases from its statement of financial position. The organization's adoption of the new standard resulted in the recognition of right-of-use assets of 193,778 and liabilities of 206,890 and the resulting cumulative effect adjustment of 13,112 to the opening balance of net assets as of january 1, 2022.
