SCOPEs mission is to engage the parents, adults and the public at large with a connection to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math). The SCOPE model employs public outreach through curating exhibits with STEAM Education to Workforce partners at local, state and national events. Sustained involvement is secured through a no cost website which provides a full spectrum STEAM pipeline including everything from an at home activity onto a job/career. Target demographics include community as a whole (all ages), particularly underserved urban and rural cores. Addressing diversity among minority and women are additionally highly important. Because many programs are dedicated to serving youth, SCOPE particularly focuses on Adults. | For 2018, SCOPE (Science and Citizens Organized for Purpose and Explorations) evaluated its model and best practices to bring the best opportunities and resources to families, students, adults and SCOPE partners. SCOPE grew its involvement with The United State Air Force through Air Mobility Command (AMC). A tour of McDill Air Force Base in April led to both a sharing of SCOPEs outreach methods, partnership potential and review of their STEM. Additionally, the visit led to Executive Director Cynthia Lloyd being selected to appear on a STEM panel, at Scott Air Force Base, to share the SCOPE model with for all Air Force base commanders and staff. By sharing our outreach of connecting informal education onto the path of education to workforce, SCOPE imparts the need and ability to bring real life connection for the STEM (STEAM) pipeline. Military has a unique challenge in the public arena. Many feel outreach efforts are recruiting. SCOPE works with them to showcase the potential of acquiring 21st century skills necessary for success in todays world of innovation.SCOPE Executive Director Cynthia Kramer also worked with the Navy and attended a fly in on the USS Stennis with educators from across the country. This tour allowed for sharing ideas, build upon our STEAM network and again share the SCOPE model to engage the public in all areas of STEAM.SCOPE continued our signature Festival within a Festival model at Fair St. Louis, over the 4th of July holiday, (serving over 250,000) and Taste of STL (serving 125,000) with partners from all areas of education and workforce. Fair St Louis had 19 exhibitor tents, which included Air Force, National Geospatial Agency, Navy, robotics and more. Taste of St Louis was a focus on regional assets, such as Plant Science and Engineering. Combined, over 10,000 attendees were directly served and connected to the free resources, information, and network SCOPE provides. .SCOPE organized, curated and evaluated these festivals, in order to build upon that public engagement, share the needs of students and families with our partners, as well as address them through SCOPE web and virtual outreach.Work continued in Tennessee and Indiana with high school students. SCOPE assisted with local outreach events, securing resources, and facilitating growing their own local education to workforce collaboratives. SCOPE continued its own robust collaborations with University of Missouri Kansas City, St Louis Community College, Missouri Western University, 4-H, Navy, Toyota Bodine, BioSTL, Cortex,, BERDST, Girl Scouts, and more are invaluable, yet often what they offer is unknown. Through numerous events, meetings, website and social media activities, SCOPE insures resources and outreach are continually used for the strongest lasting STEAM outcomes. | $20,143 | - |
