SCOPEs mission is to engage the parents, adults and the public at large with a connection to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math). The SCOPE model employs public outreach through curating exhibits with STEAM Education to Workforce partners at local, state and national events. Sustained involvement is secured through a no cost website which provides a full spectrum STEAM pipeline including everything from an at home activity onto a job/career. Target demographics include community as a whole (all ages), particularly underserved urban and rural cores. Addressing diversity among minority and women are additionally highly important. Because many programs are dedicated to serving youth, SCOPE particularly focuses on Adults. A niche needed to be filled for parents and adults looking to retool their careers with 21st century skills. SCOPE brings a real life relevance to, particularly those who would otherwise self-select away from STEAM, so theres a better understanding of w

| In 2015, SCOPE focused on solidifying its national presence, in order to increase opportunities and resources for the parents, students, adults and partners we serve. SCOPE Executive Director continued involvement, on the national level, as a core member of COPUS (Coalition on the Public Understanding of Science), as well as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Museums Science Festival Alliance (SFA). MITs SFA is funded and provides evaluation to the National Science Foundation (NSF) SCOPEs model for rural outreach and engaging underserved populations at Fairs and Festivals. SCOPE remains active in the Missouri After-School Network and is represented on the Leadership Board of the Missouri Chapter for the National Girls Collaborative Project, also an NSF funded project. SCOPE shared knowledge and examples of ways to continually impart a STEM Education to Workforce pathway into community activities. This year, SCOPE created an internship program to coincide with public outreach, in order to allow underserved students to network with education to work opportunities, as well as share their explorations with family and community. A new Festival within a Festival was launched at two venues: Fair St. Louis, over the 4th of July holiday, (serving over 250,000) and Taste of STL (serving 125,000). 2015 resulted in over ~25,000 being served directly with interactive STEAM experiences. These included the Navy debuting its new STEM National Exhibit. This allowed the public to engage with DOD STEAM pathways and contributions. SCOPE repeated this concept in August at Taste of STL. As the public enjoyed a food festival, they were given the chance to connect with assets in their own backyard. Students from the SCOPE Intern Program worked at the Fairs and exhibited STEAM activities they created (which allowed them to learn how to communicate STEM/STEAM to the public) and published on YouTube. Additionally, SCOPE High School interns joined with College level ones at the entrepreneurial incubator CIC, which opened an STL branch similar to its east coast Boston counterpart. They accessed leadership, resume, networking and career path information. Post festivals, students were taken on a college road trip to visit with fellow partner exhibitors they showcased with over the summer. A direct outcome is one of the students from North County St Louis is applying to the Aeronautical Engineering program at University of Central Missouri. SCOPE had additional successes in bringing the two year MO State Technical College and Bodine Toyota together for an Associates program which will allow students to move into Advanced Manufacturing. In house outreach was provided at the Toyota Bodines plant Employee Appreciation Event. SCOPE made a rural high school daughter of a plant worker aware of a Biotech internship in St Louis, to further her interest in STEAM. She was ultimately accepted into the program and, as of this writing, she is a Science Bio Major in college. SCOPE further strengthened the A in STEAM with two innovative projects at the St. Louis Art Museum. Family Sunday brought the 3D of Art in STEAM through SCOPE Interns making 3D glasses with the public. These were used to look at 3D Microscopy from the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center (the largest International Not for Profit research center, located in St. Louis MO), as well as make their own with Museum staff. For sustained engagement, a free app is on our site to create their own 3D art with their own digital image. Collaborations and highlighting partners is key for our mission and those we serve. University of Central Missouri, University of Missouri Kansas City, St Louis Community College, Missouri Western University, 4-H, Navy, Toyota Bodine, BioSTL, Cortex, Rippl3D, BERDST, Girl Scouts and more are invaluable, yet often what they offer is unknown. Through numerous events, meetings, website and social media activities, SCOPE insures resources and outreach are continually used for the strongest lasting impact. | $35,630 | - |
