FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

Cdf convenes conversations within the clarkston community to help residents articulate their visions for the future and develop action plans to achieve those visions. Cdf believes a community shaped by its residents is stronger and more viable than one shaped by outside forces.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Decision making. Using a participatory process, the trust gives clarkston residents the power to directly determine a project for funding and select a group of trustees to oversee the implementation of the project. Through the trust process, residents prioritized four areas of focus, with one - education - receiving funding for the year. Residents and community members attended meetings to further discuss a potential project in the area of education, which was selected in early 2014. Resident engagement resident engagement takes various forms from relationship building to projects. Since july 2011, cdf has hosted several community conversations where members of the community have gathered to discuss their vision for clarkston. From these conversations, residents have started to realize their own abilities and to make their ideas a reality. Cdf hosted three in a series of six next steps sessions that worked with residents and organizations to create action plans for various projects in the community including adult education, an early learning network, and the installation of a mural. In addition to formal conversations, cdf has ongoing efforts to connect residents to each other and projects in the community that may match their interests.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4B

Communities with strong economies thrive. For this reason, cdf partnered with village capital and social enterprise goizueta at emory university to offer a 14 week business accelerator and micro-lending program which graduated 12 entrepreneurs and gave 3 of them access to 10,000 in low- interest loans each. Community transformation course and community academy cdf hosts formal courses that encourage residents to become active in their communities, explore the skills they have to offer, and learn community development methodologies and tools. The community transformation course focuses on the role and motivation of the individual while the community academy provides a more academic, tool-based foundation.

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Page 3, Part X

Tax-exempt status clarkston development foundation qualifies as a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. Therefore, no provision for income taxes is made in the accompanying financial statements. Clarkston development foundation is not classified as a private foundation. The accounting standard on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes addresses the determination of whether tax benefits claimed or expected to be claimed on a tax return should be recorded in the financial statements. Under that guidance, the organization may recognize the tax benefit from an uncertain tax position only if it is more likely than not that the tax position will be sustained on examination by taxing authorities based on the technical merits of the position. Examples of tax positions include the tax-exempt status of the organization and various positions related to the potential sources of unrelated business taxable income (ubit). The tax benefits recognized in the financial statements from such a position are measured based on the largest benefit that has a greater than 50% likelihood of being realized upon ultimate settlement. There were no unrecognized tax benefits identified or recorded as liabilities for the year ended december 31, 2013 and 2012.

IRS990/Desc0COMMUNITY BUILDING COMMUNITIES FACE A WIDE VARIETY OF CHALLENGES. CDF WORKS WITH COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO BUILD THE COMMUNITY THEY WANT FROM WITHIN. THE ORGANIZATION PLACES A STRONG FOCUS ON RELATIONSHIPS AND WORKS CLOSELY WITH RESIDENTS AS THEY IMPLEMENT THEIR IDEAS FOR THEIR COMMUNITY. CDF KNOWS THAT BEING PART OF A DECISION-MAKING PROCESS IS KEY TO RESIDENTS OWNING THEIR FUTURES. COMMUNITY TRUST THE CLARKSTON COMMUNITY TRUST IS A FUND CREATED TO ACTIVATE COMMUNITY DECISION MAKING.

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0TAX-EXEMPT STATUS CLARKSTON DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION QUALIFIES AS A TAX-EXEMPT ORGANIZATION UNDER SECTION 501(C)(3) OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE.
