Form 990, Part III, Line 4D: Other Program Services Description

Other program services 4: special projects

Part III Program Service Accomplishments 4A

Program #1 building communitiescllc's 7-year collaborative, the roundtable of the crown of the continent's roundtable adaptive management initiative recently won the climate adaptation award from the us department of the interior for imaginative efforts to safeguard america's resources from climate change and it is an example to use elsewhere. Our upper missouri drought resilience partnership is the only national demonstration project. The final plan we produced is the drought mitigation tool for the entire watershed and is a model for others in the united states. Cllc's practitioners' network for large landscape conservation has created a hub of over 100 conservation organizations, professionals and citizens engaged in advancing large landscape conservation initiatives across the continent. We convened our first conference and over 200 people had to be turned away. Our pilot project, faith and the environment, surveyed faith and spiritual groups in the northern rockies to advise how they can promote conservation values, and how conservation groups can provide faith groups with the scientific information they request. Cllc is now active in the society of conservation biology's (scb) faith and conservation biology working group. We played a key role in creating international guidelines for scb members on conducting research within religious communities. Finally, cllc has collaborated with the confederated salish and kootenai tribes and the blackfeet tribe to develop climate adaptation plans so the tribes are better prepared to manage their lands as the climate changes. This is a model for other tribal communities throughout the world.

Part III Program Service Accomplishments 4B

Program #2 advancing sciencecllc is the technical lead for the great norther landscape conservation cooperative's connectivity project by facilitating development of a region-wide strategy that supports local connectivity objectives while highlighting their context in the larger landscape. We implemented these strategies by creating a data atlas, a resource hub and presenting workshops for the partners. For patagonia, cllc has mapped the world's large landscape efforts (globescapes atlas) to inform potential funders and to identify conservation areas that need more capacity and involvement. The atlas also allows practitioners, and the public to explore landscape conservation initiatives around the world. Cllc has worked with the north central climate science center, state and federal agencies and private land trusts, to complete the climate change vulnerability assessment for the u.s. Northern rockies. The results include a report, downloadable data layers, and web-based story map in order to understand how climate change may alter habitats and how practitioners can integrate information into climate adaptation strategies.

Part III Program Service Accomplishments 4C

Program #3 advocating policy cllc's partnership with arc solutions (animal road crossing solutions) has worked to promote innovative wildlife crossing designs. This year we won the federal highway administration's award for excellence in environmental leadership, and our work was featured this spring in their publication successes in stewardship. In jackson hole, wyoming, our work, with local partners, collecting animal movement data on camera traps for wildlife crossings has led to wyoming department of transportation to building an additional underpass and increasing the number of wildlife crossings to eight, thereby improving connectivity for smaller wildlife. Cllc also worked with local jackson hole partners to obtain $100,000 in county funding to develop a wildlife crossing master plan and draft wildlife language for inclusion in the teton county's integrated transportation plan. Cllc and the wildlands network lead the effort to develop federal legislation for the national wildlife corridors conservation act, working with congressman don beyer (d-va) and meeting regularly with key staff of federal agencies. Furthermore, cllc is a leading partner in developing transition strategies with several federal agencies to ensure that pro-connectivity conservation policies remain a priority in the new presidential administration. We developed two policy papers highlighting connectivity strategies: 1) an outline of new federal policies enacted under the obama administration, and 2) a summary of policies adopted by policy "incubator" states (ca, fl, nh, nm, wy).

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1FORM 990 IS REVIEWED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS PRIOR TO FILING
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt2Each year, all directors and officers are required to read, sign and adhere to the Conflict of Interest Policy. The Policy determines if a conflict exists, procedures for addressing a conflict, conflicts that may exist in compensation matters, how violations will be addressed and how to record proceedings.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt3The Executive Director's compensation is determined by a process which includes a yearly performance review, a review of other Executive Director's compensation, comparability data and contemporaneous substantiation of the deliberation and decision.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt4THE ORGANIZATION HAS MADE ITS GOVERNING DOCUMENTS, POLICIES, AND FINANCIAL STATEMENTS AVAILABLE ON GUIDESTAR'S WEBSITE
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt5PROGRAM #1 BUILDING COMMUNITIESCLLC'S 7-YEAR COLLABORATIVE, THE ROUNDTABLE OF THE CROWN OF THE CONTINENT'S ROUNDTABLE ADAPTIVE MANAGEMENT INITIATIVE RECENTLY WON THE CLIMATE ADAPTATION AWARD FROM THE US DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR FOR IMAGINATIVE EFFORTS TO SAFEGUARD AMERICA'S RESOURCES FROM CLIMATE CHANGE AND IT IS AN EXAMPLE TO USE ELSEWHERE.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt6PROGRAM #2 ADVANCING SCIENCECLLC IS THE TECHNICAL LEAD FOR THE GREAT NORTHER LANDSCAPE CONSERVATION COOPERATIVE'S CONNECTIVITY PROJECT BY FACILITATING DEVELOPMENT OF A REGION-WIDE STRATEGY THAT SUPPORTS LOCAL CONNECTIVITY OBJECTIVES WHILE HIGHLIGHTING THEIR CONTEXT IN THE LARGER LANDSCAPE.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt7PROGRAM #3 ADVOCATING POLICY CLLC'S PARTNERSHIP WITH ARC SOLUTIONS (ANIMAL ROAD CROSSING SOLUTIONS) HAS WORKED TO PROMOTE INNOVATIVE WILDLIFE CROSSING DESIGNS.
