Healing Bridges works with traditional communities to create audiovisual products about their beliefs, engages in various forms of advocacy and other supporting activities in national and international arenas to protect and strengthen them, and bridge the gap between them and the modern world for mutual benefit. Current focus is with the traditional authorities (shamans) of the Kofan indigenous people in the Colombian Amazon with sporadic engagement with those of the Siona people.

| Strengthening traditional communities. In October, Healing Bridges gathered with 7 Kofan and 4 Siona Traditional Authorities; 5 Kofan and 3 Siona grandmothers; 11 Kofan and 7 Siona followers (seguidores), and 8 others. For three days and nights, they discussed recent developments and agreed to increase their joint gatherings. Healing Bridges also visited several Ingi bupa aquaculture and aviculture sites. This gathering was supported in part by Amazon Watch. Healing Bridges continued pressing the Inter American System of Human Rights on the failure of the Colombian State to protect Kofan territory (Individual Petition filed in 2013). In November, Healing Bridges met with the Colombian Government's General Director of the National Agency for the Legal Defense of the State and wrote the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights of our intent to provide further observations. Healing Bridges provided $12,553 towards the Ingi bupa project, a hallmark of which is the minga or collective work session (representing cultural recovery), supporting aviculture, aquaculture, and other agriculture. The participating 9 families built two chicken coops, bought 17,000 fish fry and 300 chicks/hens, and 253 bags of fish and chicken feed. The 13 mingas (February 18 - July 16) refurbished aquaculture ponds; and planted, tended, and harvested crops, over a total of 665 hours. They also organized two scheduling meetings as well as a day-long workshop on aquaculture and accounting. And finally, in preparation for the October gathering, they organized a minga to prepare the meeting site, and donated 50 kilos of tilapia, 120 eggs, and 6 bunches plantains. Ingi Bupa was supported in part by Honor the Earth. In addition to the two chicken coops, Healing Bridges boosted infrastructure by providing $350 for roofing for a Kofan Traditional Authority and $240 for roofing for the daughter of an Ingi Bupa participant. Healing Bridges provided $1,158 in partial support for a Siona Traditional Authority's home construction in the reservation Buenavista, and $1,180 for another Siona Traditional Authority's home in the reservation Nuevo Amanecer. In January, Healing Bridges provided food staples to 43 families in 5 Kofan territories and finished distributing the nutritional supplement Plumpy'Up in June. Healing Bridges provided $311 in support for ASMIK, the association of Kofan Traditional Authorities, Asociación "U'fama Kwipa Atenswndekhw A'indekhw," Médicos Kofanes de la Sabiduría U'fama, funding its annual obligations to the Colombian State, and providing some support for ASMIK's annual meeting. In 2022, Healing Bridges remunerated $4,885 in indigenous labor, nearly half of it in honoraria for their work in ceremonies of traditional indigenous medicine. Healing Bridges provided $2,740 for western medical and/or traditional treatment, and in some cases, its associated travel and/or lodging support, for 2 elder Kofan Traditional Authorities, 1 Kofan grandmother, 1 elder Siona Traditional Authority, and 4 other Kofan. In the policy realm, Healing Bridges briefed United Nations Development Program (UNDP) investigation staff about UNDP's "strategic alliance" in 2021 with the oil company GeoPark, participated in several meetings of the Colombia Steering Committee, hosted the Washington visit of the President of the U.N. Permanent Forum on Indigenous Peoples and the former Special Advisor on Indigenous Peoples for USAID, participated in a two-day National Academies of Sciences seminar on the linkages between human and planetary health, and the Healing Bridges Board passed a resolution on Healing Bridges and Global Warming. | $0 | $35,887 |
| Production of audiovisual products about traditional communities and beliefs. Healing Bridges finished editing and distributed the video "2021 Year in Review." During 2022, we received more than 200 photos and 11 videos from the Ingi bupa semanba humbachuha mendevi food security project participants. In October, Healing Bridges videotaped 7.03 hours of interviews and meetings, both of Ingi Bupa participants and their sites, and of the proceedings of the gathering of Kofan and Siona Traditional Authorities. Healing Bridges also took more than 1,500 photos and 6 phone videos. These were then used to produce a short November Update and a video thanking Amazon Watch for its support. We also designed and printed two postcards: one of bracelets-artisan Matilde Potosí; the other about the mochilas, the handwoven bags. | $0 | $16,427 |
| Bridging the gap between traditional communities and the modern world to ensure mutual benefit. Healing Bridges continued its outreach, briefing Colombian Government officials, including the new Foreign and Defense ministers, members of Colombian civil society, USA civil society, and staff of USAID-Colombia. This outreach included teaching a class on Social Justice Advocacy for Bradley University and one on Kofan cosmology at Blake High School, and tabling at the Ignatian Solidarity Network's annual "Family Teach-In for Justice." In December, Healing Bridges conducted 17 zoom year-end briefings, reaching 91 individuals in 21 states, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia; and China, the Netherlands, Italy, and Colombia. Healing Bridges continued its search for markets for Kofan, selling handicrafts at a boutique and at a national annual conference. | $0 | $5,158 |
