Healing Bridges works with traditional communities to create audiovisual products about their beliefs, engages in various forms of advocacy and other supporting activities in national and international arenas to protect and strengthen them, and bridge the gap between them and the modern world for mutual benefit. Current focus is with the traditional authorities (shamans) of the Kofan indigenous people in the Colombian Amazon with sporadic engagement with those of the Siona people.

| Healing Bridges continued its pursuit of remedial action through the Inter American System of Human Rights for the failure of the Colombian State to protect the Kofan people (Individual Petition filed February 2013). In September Healing Bridges filed a response to that of the Colombian State, and also got a critical analysis of the Land Rights Agency's mapping. Healing Bridges continued the Ingi bupa semanba humbachuha mendevi food security initiative, a hallmark of which is the minga or collective work session (representing cultural recovery), supporting aviculture, aquaculture, and other agriculture. The participating 11 Kofan families received $5,490 to build four chicken coops, buy fish fry and chicks, buy fish and chicken feed, as well as seed and plantlets. $910 for food and transportation backed 27 mingas (January 8 - December 29) during which they built chicken coops; refurbished aquaculture ponds; planted, tended, and harvested crops; and helped build a ceremonial house. Healing Bridges boosted Kofan infrastructure in four main ways by providing the following: 1) $7,452 for the expansion and/or creation of 8 aquaculture holdings; 2) $4,316 for the building of a ceremonial house (central to Kofan culture and operational by year's end); 3) $1,039 for the building of the four chicken coops; and 4) $1,661 to purchase a small grinder, plus materials and labor for its enclosure. This latter is a pilot to evaluate the viability of complementing the (agroindustrial) animal feed with natural foods. Healing Bridges provided $2,178 to provide food staples in June-July to 40 families in 5 Kofan territories and also embarked on a pilot with the nutritional supplement Plumpy'Up. Healing Bridges continued its support for ASMIK, the association of Kofan Traditional Authorities, Asociación "U'fama Kwipa Atenswndekhw A'indekhw," Médicos Kofanes de la Sabiduría U'fama, funding its annual obligations to the Colombian State, provided $376 in western medical support for 6 Kofan (4 elders), and $1,916 to address various calamities. In the policy realm, Healing Bridges worked closely with the Buenavista Siona indigenous, the ADISPA campesino community, Amazon Watch, Comisión Intereclesial de Justicia y Paz, and Amazon Frontlines to shut down a "strategic alliance" between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the oil company GeoPark; as well as further follow up with the UNDP. This included productive outreach to the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Peoples to insert language into the 20th Session's final declaration. Due to unprecedented and widespread repression, Healing Bridges supported a call to cut-off U.S. security assistance to Colombia. Healing Bridges signed on to Pax Christi International's paper on the human right to water. Healing Bridges participated in several fossil-fuel related demonstrations and monitored a forum and a hearing on fossil fuels. During 2021, Healing Bridges remunerated $2,247 in local indigenous labor. | $0 | $48,208 |
| Healing Bridges continued its outreach, teaching two classes on advocacy for Bradley University, presenting before the Ignatian Solidarity Network's annual "Family Teach-In for Justice" both virtually and in-person, participating in the Latin America regional consultation of Pax Christi International, and briefing Rainforest Foundation-Norway and UNDP staff. In December, Healing Bridges conducted 27 zoom year-end briefings, reaching 97 individuals in four countries, 23 states, and Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia. The Executive Director of Healing Bridges took an intensive three-week compact online course on Carbon Forestry offered by the University of Freiburg. Since then, he has attended several related webinars and been in contact with various actors to develop possible AFOLU carbon project applications, especially insetting. Healing Bridges has looked into land purchase logistics for possible reforestation. Healing Bridges continued its search for markets for Kofan with further development of the square.com e-commerce site. | $0 | $11,063 |
| Healing Bridges remotely gathered more than 400 photos, 10 audio files, and 10 videos documenting the activities of the Ingi bupa semanba humbachuha mendevi food security initiative from Santa Rosa and Yarinal reservations. These were then used to compile a year-end video as well as to promote the work through Facebook postings including birthday fundraisers, a TechSoup promotional video, and Honor the Earth. Translation and transcription of earlier project footage continued. | $0 | $3,927 |
