Activity 2

Development of Affordable Housing- We also understand the unique challenges of designing and building affordable housing. We have the experience to find and use the unique combinations of debt and equity financing, grants, loans, and contributions, both in-kind and financial, to make an affordable housing project successful. Over its thirty-year history, Hope has acquired, sold and developed numerous properties. Most of these we have maintained in our rental portfolio which now totals 350 units in seven properties, including 120 in Curtis Park/Five Points. In Curtis Park alone, we have sold dozens of homes to individual low- and middle-income buyers. Hope completed a $12 million new development, The Point, which included 33 for-sale lofts, 35 affordable apartments, and three ground floor retail spaces. Hope completed the successful redevelopment of Fern Hall on Welton Street, including six for-sale lofts, and three ground floor office/retail spaces. Hope has successfully completed ten single-family homes, and sold all of them to income-qualified first-time homebuyers. Hope redeveloped a nearly abandoned Victorian-era multi-family building into Hope Communities Neighborhood Center, our office and gathering/meeting place for the neighborhood.

Activity 3

Programs for Residents- While Hope believes that safe, decent housing is the first step toward a family's success, we also believe that families need services to improve their standing. Thus, Hope offers a wide array of services to our residents, all of which will be available to the low-income residents of our properties: Adult Education Programs - ESL, GED, parenting, computer literacy, and homeownership. Youth Education Programs - after-school tutoring for community youth, jobs for teens and other opportunities throughout the year. Economic Development Programs - financial literacy, resume preparation, and job readiness. Health and Wellness Programs - discount grocery programs and regular health and dental screenings. Community -Building Programs - building communities of friends and neighbors instead of just living next to each other. Christmas Treasure Store program - enabling parents to buy Christmas presents for their children at a deep discount.
