The mission of the shadow project is to make school more accessible and engaging for children with disabilities, so they can achieve their full potential. Since 2003, the shadow project has supported over 20,000 students impacted by autism, adhd, (continued on sch o) dyslexia and other learning challenges to improve their reading skills, build self-confidence, and shatter myths about what people with disabilities are capable of. Students in the shadow project have gone on to become classroom leaders, reading champions, and the first in their family to graduate high school.
The mission of the shadow project is to make school more accessible and engaging for children with disabilities, so they can achieve their full potential.

“Our organization provides evidence-based tools and strategies tailored to the needs of students with learning challenges. We also support educators in integrating these resources into their curricula, and building their skill sets for providing a trauma-informed, culturally responsive learning environment. The harvard business school association found that every 1 invested in shadow project returns 26 in benefits to students and the community. Recent accomplishments: when the pandemic struck, shadow project worked with special education teachers to develop a suite of resources to aid students in adapting to a distance-learning environment. We launched a pilot project that kept nearly 400 students with disabilities persevering and engaged in learning. Students set and met their own goals for online learning, successfully used assistive technology to help them read and combated social isolation through our virtual reading mentor groups and summer book clubs. In a june 2020 evaluation, 93% of participating teachers reported their students showed improved social-emotional and/or distance learning skills. Despite a deeply disrupted school year, 82% of students in our high-tech reading mentors program gained at least 1 grade level in reading proficiency, including 13% who increased 2 grade levels”

THE HARVARD BUSINESS SCHOOL ASSOCIATION FOUND THAT EVERY 1 INVESTED IN SHADOW PROJECT RETURNS 26 IN BENEFITS TO STUDENTS AND THE COMMUNITY. RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS: WHEN THE PANDEMIC STRUCK, SHADOW PROJECT WORKED WITH SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS TO DEVELOP A SUITE OF RESOURCES TO AID STUDENTS IN ADAPTING TO A DISTANCE-LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. WE LAUNCHED A PILOT PROJECT THAT KEPT NEARLY 400 STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES PERSEVERING AND ENGAGED IN LEARNING. STUDENTS SET AND MET THEIR OWN GOALS FOR ONLINE LEARNING, SUCCESSFULLY USED ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY TO HELP THEM READ AND COMBATED SOCIAL ISOLATION THROUGH OUR VIRTUAL READING MENTOR GROUPS AND SUMMER BOOK CLUBS. IN A JUNE 2020 EVALUATION, 93% OF PARTICIPATING TEACHERS REPORTED THEIR STUDENTS SHOWED IMPROVED SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL AND/OR DISTANCE LEARNING SKILLS. DESPITE A DEEPLY DISRUPTED SCHOOL YEAR, 82% OF STUDENTS IN OUR HIGH-TECH READING MENTORS PROGRAM GAINED AT LEAST 1 GRADE LEVEL IN READING PROFICIENCY, INCLUDING 13% WHO INCREASED 2 GRADE LEVELS |
