The mission of the shadow project is to make school more accessible and engaging for children with disabilities, so they can achieve their full potential. Since 2003, the shadow project has supported over 20,000 students impacted by autism, adhd, (continued on sch o) dyslexia and other learning challenges to improve their reading skills, build self-confidence, and shatter myths about what people with disabilities are capable of. Students in the shadow project have gone on to become classroom leaders, reading champions, and the first in their family to graduate high school.
The mission of the shadow project is to make school more accessible and engaging for children with disabilities, so they can achieve their full potential.

Working through an equity lens, shadow focuses on high-needs schools to create a more inclusive environment for chronically underserved children. We equip schools with evidence-based tools, technology and strategies tailored to children whose disabilities impact learning and support teachers to integrate these resources into their classrooms. The shadow project has helped unleash potential for more than 11,000 children who struggle to read, write, focus or fit in. External evaluation of our collaborative work with schools shows growing evidence of impact on key academic and social-emotional skills: students who were up to three years behind have gained as much as two grade levels in reading; 73% of students benefitting from our sensory spaces have improved self-regulation; and 72% of students strongly believe that mistakes help them learn.”

THE SHADOW PROJECT HAS HELPED UNLEASH POTENTIAL FOR MORE THAN 11,000 CHILDREN WHO STRUGGLE TO READ, WRITE, FOCUS OR FIT IN. EXTERNAL EVALUATION OF OUR COLLABORATIVE WORK WITH SCHOOLS SHOWS GROWING EVIDENCE OF IMPACT ON KEY ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL SKILLS: STUDENTS WHO WERE UP TO THREE YEARS BEHIND HAVE GAINED AS MUCH AS TWO GRADE LEVELS IN READING; 73% OF STUDENTS BENEFITTING FROM OUR SENSORY SPACES HAVE IMPROVED SELF-REGULATION; AND 72% OF STUDENTS STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT MISTAKES HELP THEM LEARN. |
