Activity 2

In 2012, with support from the federal Broadband Opportunities Technology Program (BTOP), OATS built 17 Public Computer Centers at neighborhood senior centers throughout NYC. These labs brought to 23 the total number of community-based BTOP labs built by OATS in 2011-12. The labs are located in Manhattan (8), the Bronx (5), Brooklyn (4), Queens (4), & Staten Island (2). Using a Dell KACE appliance, OATS provides network administration to the 250 workstations at the community labs as well as to the 20 workstations at the Senior Planet Exploration Center. At the BTOP labs, OATS delivered 55 BTOP-funded technology training courses in 2012, including Computer Basics (in English and Spanish), Advanced Computing, Social Networking, and Workforce Development. Through all its local community partnerships, OATS provided more than 2,100 training sessions to 1,040 seniors citywide in 2012.

Activity 3

SeniorPlanet.org, a website originally launched in 2006, underwent a total redesign in 2012 and premiered in October with an entirely new look and feel, with high-quality and continuously updated original and curated content covering topics in health, work and finances, technology, relationships, and lifestyle. Over 12,000 unique users visit the site each month (as of December 2012).The site also provides information on Senior Planet Exploration Center classes and activities and features a weekly calendar of events emailed to over 4,000 subscribers.Senior Planet also established an active presence on Facebook with 1,246 Likes and Twitter with 1,434 followers (as of 12/31/12). The Senior Planet mobile lab entered service in August 2012, and delivers technology and training to sites throughout New York City.
