Other

Part iii line 28: in 2016 hattheatre taught approx. 206 students a combination of performing arts and public speaking classes. This includes a school year (sept.-april) 26 week program, summer camp/workshops june-august, and classes for adults that run continuously all year in 6 week blocks. This year we also continued to provide a class off-site to students at the local montessori school 2 students in our youth classes were on 100% scholarship. 1 student received a discount of 50% off tuition. Instead of offering scholarships for our summer program, we provide 1/2 price deals all summer through living social, of which over 3/4 of our studentscome from that promotion. 1 student in the adult class attended all but one session for free.our student base includes those who fall on the autism spectrum as well as those diagnosed with adhd and other learning disabilities. Our goal is to mainstream all populations. We serve all of the greater rva area with students coming from all surrounding counties. Our free one-act weekend served approx. 54, our end year performance served approx. 175. Every summer workshop week ends with a free performance for family and friends of the students. Total audience over the summer was approx. 325. The youth troupe performances, one in the fall and one in the spring, served the community with 6 shows attended by approx. 400. Our adult series this year produced 2 shows (9 performances) and served approx. 500 audience members. "wonderful world, beautiful people" was a part of the local artober celebration of the arts spearheaded by the non profit cultureworks organization. Community service days were held several times this year. School children in this area need community service hours for school. We were able to bring these kids into the theatre where they could gain those hours with our non-profit. We also had an all night sleep-over service night where they painted sets and props for a specific show, thus gaining valuable skills in return for their service. We partnered with 5th wall theatre again for one show so they had a venue to perform in. We also played host to capitol opera company. The ny trip is for our adult and teen students who go every three years to take classes. The money paid by them does not fully fund the trip and hattheatre subsidizes the balance, making it affordable for all. The trip was taken in nov. 2016. Students take classes in ny and attend shows. This year they were able totake a full day of classes and see 3 different shows. It was an incredible learning experience for all.
