“City of Richmond Nondepartmental funds. Assumed leadership in the collaboration of the Richmond area green, recreational and volunteer nonprofit organizations in order to maximize the utilization of limited resources and area volunteer labor force. Engaged local businesses, neighborhood youth and adult volunteers and government officials to transform our communitys liabilities into community assets. Undertook the Cannon Creek Walking Bridge Project involving the construction of a pedestrian bridge along the Cannon Creek Greenway. Established Job Corps and Green Teams to clean up brownfields and derelict lots as well as install and maintain greenways once they are established. Engaged youth in service learning projects in middle and high Schools located in the East End of the city of Richmond such as the Armstrong High School Green team. Worked toward the completion of one pedestrian and bicycle trail located in the East End.”

“Developed a Groundwork Richmond GWRVA Project Management System and Administrative System. Undertook the planning and development activities to engage GWRVA in the cleanup and reuse of brownfields and derelict lands for community benefit. Developed and implemented a GWRVA Green Team and Youth Corps Environmental Service Learning Program and other environmental education programs. Assessed projects, programs and operations of GWRVA at the completion of its first year of operation as part of an operations review with Groundwork USA and to develop a two-year Strategic Plan for building the capacity of GWRVA.”

“City of Richmond Department of Parks and Recreation. Established a Green Workforce team at Bellemeade Recreational Center in south Richmond composed of 10 high school age youth learning landscape training and watershed conservation afterschool during the school year . Educated this team of high schoolers, all of whom live in the Bellemeade neighborhood in local ecology sustainable landscape maintenance and teamwork preparing them for jobs in fields related to landscape maintenance and ecology.”

“Groundwork RVA cultivates young conservation leaders by creating green infrastructure in Richmond Virginias urban neighborhoods We work with high school age Green Teams to revive underserved Richmond communities by taking an active role in facilitating environmental economic and social wellbeing in their neighborhoods through the transformation of blighted and neglected open spaces into public assets. In doing so, Groundwork RVA fosters environmental stewardship providing educational programs and project management contributing to the rehabilitation of green spaces and restoration of urban waterways and enhancing the health and beauty of Richmond, Virginias urban core and the James River watershed.”
