Mission

Transform minnesota's transportation system to strengthen communities, improve opportunity and health for all people, foster a sound economy, and protect natural resources.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Advocacy/education/community outreach specific activities: - built and facilitated a coalition of organizations called transit for a stronger economy to provide education/information about the benefits of public transit in the twin cities region and greater minnesota. Developed a web site and communications materials. Garnered significant media attention. Presented on the benefits of transit to numerous organizations and stakeholders. - convened three meetings of metro leaders for transit, a table of key city, county, regional and state public, private and non-profit leaders to discuss goals and strategies to obtain greater investment in transit, bicycling and walking in the minneapolis-st. Paul metropolitan area. (continued on sched. O)- staff members served on the metropolitan council's transportation advisory board and fare policy advisory committee, and the minnesota department of transportation's complete streets advisory committee.- maintained a web site and disseminated written and e-information on public transit, bicycling, walking, and transit oriented development. - hosted community meetings in minneapolis, eden prairie, and hopkins about southwest light rail. Delivered postcards to legislators and governor supporting bonding for southwest light rail. - staff members presented at 2012 rail-volution conference, the neighborhood sustainability summit, the oberstar forum, the governor's transportation finance advisory committee, humphrey school, u of m law school and minnesota zoo school.- submitted written comments on plans, reports and initiatives including, southwest lrt draft environmental impact statement, metro transit's plan to restructure bus service in conjunction with the opening of central corridor, mndot's minnesota go statewide transportation plan, metropolitan council thrive msp.- provided outreach support at a number of events including the living green expo, career fair in brooklyn park, presentations to college students, and more. Provided opportunities for members to be involved in activities and events. - updated tlc policy briefs on transit fares, transit funding in peer regions, vehicle miles traveled, transit service in other regions, and a variety of other topics. - developed a policy paper on regional development plans in peer regions and presented that information to the metropolitan council and made it available on the tlc web site. - facilitated twin cities transit oriented development (tod) advisory committee, a bi-monthly information sharing table of public, private, and non-profit representatives with a shared interest of more equitable transit oriented development. - participated in the clean air dialog sponsored by the minnesota pollution control agency and environment minnesota.
