(CONTINUED ON SCHED. O) COORDINATED A TEAM OF CONSULTANTS AND PROJECT STAKEHOLDERS TO APPLY BEST PRACTICES DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS FOR BICYCLING AND WALKING. THE REPORT WAS RELEASED IN APRIL 2012. - CONTINUED TO COUNT BICYCLISTS AND PEDESTRIANS AT 42 BENCHMARKING LOCATIONS IN THE PILOT AREA ON AN ANNUAL BASIS. CONDUCTED MONTHLY COUNTS AT FIVE OF THE LOCATIONS AND ONGOING COUNTS AT SIX AUTOMATED COUNT LOCATIONS. PUBLISHED MATERIALS ON THE RESULTS OF SIX YEARS OF ANNUAL COUNT RESULTS FINDING A 51% INCREASE IN BICYCLING AND A 24% INCREASE IN WALKING FROM 2007 TO 2011. - PROVIDED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO CITY AND COUNTY PLANNERS AND ENGINEERS ON BEST PRACTICES IN PROJECT PLANNING AND DESIGN. - CONTINUED COMMUNICATION AND EDUCATIONAL EFFORTS, INCLUDING A MAJOR PUBLIC INFORMATION AND AWARENESS CAMPAIGN KNOWN AS BIKE WALK MOVE. THE CAMPAIGN BRINGS ATTENTION TO NEW BWTC INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE COMMUNITY, HELPING RESIDENTS TO SEE NEW TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS THROUGH AN EXPANDED AND SAFER BIKE/WALK NETWORK. THE FOCUS IN 2012 WAS IN NORTHEAST MINNEAPOLIS WHERE SEVERAL NEW BICYCLE BOULEVARDS ARE NOW OPEN. AS PART OF THE CAMPAIGN, LAUNCHED A BIKE/WALK JINGLE CONTEST AND PROVIDED BIWEEKLY COLUMN ON BICYCLING AND WALKING FOR THE JOURNAL NEWSPAPER, SERVING THE NORTHEAST COMMUNITY. - ADDED SPONSORSHIP AND COLLABORATIVE VALUE TO THE GROWING CULTURE FOR ACTIVE LIVING. MAJOR EVENTS WITH BWTC SUPPORT IN 2012 INCLUDED BIKE WALK WEEK AND MINNEAPOLIS OPEN STREETS. - BWTC CELEBRATED WITH THE US POSTAL SERVICE THE "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE," OF THE NEW BICYCLING POSTAGE STAMPS.
