Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Community housing network's (chn) mission is to strengthen communities by connecting people to housing resources. This is accomplished by providing affordable housing, administering supportive housing, being a leading provider of homeless prevention and rapid re-housing resources, and offering other housing programs including housing counseling, foreclosure prevention counseling and financial counseling. Through these programs chn serves people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, people with disabilities, people with low incomes, and other vulnerable people in southeast michigan.

Major Activities

Activity 2
In 2012, the community housing network leasing assistance program (laps) provided rental assistance and housing-related supportive services to 441 previously homeless adults and children, where the head of household had a disability (as one of the qualifying factors for the programs). Chn administers its leasing assistance programs in oakland and macomb counties, through 18 hud-sponsored grants totaling more than $3 million. The leasing assistance programs provide stable, affordable housing to formerly homeless individuals and families in need. They also provide support to help people achieve their goals, often leading to greater independence for program participants. In 2012, 19 people successfully exited the leasing assistance programs, seven people, four in oakland county and three in macomb county, transitioned out of the leasing assistance program and are now renting independently. There were also twelve people, nine in oakland county and three in macomb county, who exited the leasing assistance program into housing with a rental subsidy.

COMMUNITY HOUSING NETWORK ALSO INCLUDES MANAGEMENT OF THE HOMELESS MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (HMIS) IN OAKLAND COUNTY.

MIDWEST RESOURCE PARTNERS, LLC IS TREATED AS A DISREGARDED ENTITY FOR TAX PURPOSES, WITH ALL ACTIVITY INCLUDED IN THE SINGLE MEMBER'S TAX FILINGS. OAKLAND HOUSING PARTNERS, INC. IS A FOR-PROFIT CORPORATION INCORPORATED IN 2012, WITH MINIMAL ACTIVITY DURING THE YEAR. CHN UNITY PARK LDHA LP REMAINS IN THE FORMATION STAGE AT SEPTEMBER 30, 2012. THE ORGANIZATION FOLLOWS GUIDELINES INCLUDED IN STANDARDS RELATING TO THE ACCOUNTING FOR UNCERTAINTY IN INCOME TAXES. THE TAX EFFECTS FROM AN UNCERTAIN TAX POSITION CAN BE RECOGNIZED IN THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS, ONLY IF THE POSITION IS MORE LIKELY THAN NOT TO BE SUSTAINED ON AUDIT, BASED ON THE TECHNICAL MERITS OF THE POSITION. THE ORGANIZATION RECOGNIZES THE FINANCIAL STATEMENT BENEFIT OF A TAX POSITION ONLY AFTER DETERMINING THAT THE RELEVANT TAX AUTHORITY WOULD BE MORE LIKELY THAN NOT TO SUSTAIN THE POSITION FOLLOWING AN AUDIT. FOR TAX POSITIONS MEETING THE MORE LIKELY THAN NOT THRESHOLD, THE AMOUNT RECOGNIZED IN THE COMBINED FINANCIAL STATEMENTS IS THE LARGEST BENEFIT THAT HAS A GREATER THAN 50 PERCENT LIKELIHOOD OF BEING REALIZED, UPON ULTIMATE SETTLEMENT WITH THE RELEVANT TAX AUTHORITY.
