Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 1

The officers of trp shall constitute an executive committee of the board of directors. Except to the extent otherwise provided in resolutions of the board of directors from time to time and by the general not for profit corporation act of illinois, the executive committee shall have and may exercise all of the powers and authority of the board of directors in the management of the affairs of the organization between board meetings. In addition, the executive committee shall be responsible for ongoing review and recommendations to enhance the quality and future viability of the board of directors. The committee's responsibilities include (1) regularly reviewing and updating the board roles and responsibilities and helping to shape the board's agenda based on the board adopted strategic plan (2) develop a profile of the board, lead in assessing current and anticipated needs related to board composition, identify and cultivate potential board members and nominate at-large members to be elected to the board (3) design and execute board orientation process and ongoing board education (4) regularly review the board's practices and assess board performance and recommend appropriate changes no less than once a year at the annual board meeting (5) nominate a slate of board officers in anticipation of bi-annual elections.

Social Enterprise: The Resurrection Project [TRP] launched a social enterprise, LiftUp, to develop for-profit entities that will create quality jobs offering a livable wage, basic benefits, and career and wealth-building opportunities to their employees. Liftup opened Do Right Cleaning, which has created 15 full-time and 5 part-time jobs in 2018. LiftUp received a major investment from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which will significantly increase TRPs capacity to deliver on this economic development effort.

The Resurrection Project is exempt from income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Resurrection Project remains liable for income taxes on unrelated business income. No provision or benefit for income taxes has been included in these consolidated financial statements for the Partnerships and LLCs since taxable income passes through to, and is reportable by, the Partners and Members individually.

IRS990/Desc0Community Ownership: Programs awakens individuals sense of ownership and pride in their communities, enabling residents to be agents of change in their communities, schools, and parishes. TRP develops in individuals the skills, knowledge, and tools to be confident, engaged residents. Through community organizing, leadership development, health access and navigation, and educational supportive services, TRPs Community Ownership programs reach over 10,000 individuals in 2018. La Casa Student Housing housed 136 students pursuing a higher education degree in academic year 2017-2018 (August 2017 to June 2018) and 53 students by 2018 year-end. TRP provided support to 304 college-aged students through workshops related to STEM, writing tutoring, and homework support. Another 51 middle school and high school students completed TRPs 2018 Summer of Power, which included trips to local college campuses. TRPs Education Programs promoted academic achievement and enrichment opportunities, reaching 267 middle school students and their parents. Staff connected 185 students and their parents to dental, vision, and mental health services through on-site dental and vision clinics, social-emotional counseling, and art therapy. Through 611 one-on-one health education sessions, TRPs ELLAS (En La Lucha a Sobrevivir or In the Fight to Survive) program provided 535 referrals for mammogram and cervical cancer screening. TRP also incorporated HOPE Family Services into its operations in 2018. HOPE annually provides comprehensive, trauma-informed services to 1,110 women experiencing domestic violence. In 2018, TRPs immigration services reached 5,031 individuals in Chicagos Immigrant communities through Know Your Rights trainings. In addition, TRP conducted 994 legal screenings sessions on immigration-related topics U.S citizenship (316) Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (480), and other forms of relief 198). TRP, also, filed 624 first-time and renewal DACA, citizenship, and other applications.
