“FORM 990, PART III - 2015 REPORT The mission of Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers is to improve the health of area residents. This is the focal point that steers strategy and decision making and gives meaning and focus to staff as they go about their daily work. As long as our actions and activities are focused on improving the health of area residents, we know that we are doing whats right for our community. We carry out our mission every day by serving the hundreds of patients who walk through our doors for inpatient care, outpatient testing, emergency care, surgery and rehabilitation services. There are so many other ways we carry out our mission daily beyond traditional hospital services, including our free patient transportation service, free exercise classes for seniors, financial assistance program, education and training for pre-hospital providers, student mentoring experiences, student career exploration, free health screenings and education programs. Theres also the behind-the-scenes support that we provide for community social service agencies, including preparing daily meals for clients of Mobile Meals, providing clean linens and meals for the local PADS, meals for St. Vincent Table, and monetary support for the Will-Grundy Medical Clinic and We Care of Grundy County. Delivering quality patient care remains the highest priority at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers, as event by a number of significant accomplishments in 2015 including launching a patient safety crew that makes rounds in clinical areas with a focus on improving processes along with a comprehensive unit-based safety program with a goal of improving patient safety and safety culture. For the first time, Morris Hospital was awarded Primary Stroke Certification from the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program, and the Illinois Department of Public Health upgraded Morris Hospital from an Emergent Stroke ready Hospital to a Primary Stroke Center. Meanwhile, IDPH renewed Morris Hospitals Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics status, and the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons again awarded the Morris Hospital cancer program a three-year accreditation with commendation. A tremendous milestone was achieved in 2015 when Morris Hospital successfully made the switch to the new ICD-10 coding system. Morris Hospitals commitment to quality is further evident in the $153,000 investment toward the purchase of 52 recliner chairs to assure a chair is available in every patient room. Additionally, a significant investment was made in upgrading the telemetry system throughout the hospital to assure safety monitoring of patients. Morris Hospital was recognized for its commitment to safety by receiving its 8th consecutive A grade for patient safety from Leapfrog Group. As a result of this accolade, Morris Hospital was listed in Crains magazine as one of Illinois 18 safest hospitals. Additionally, Morris Hospital was ranked 45th out of 202 hospitals in Illinois for readmission rates. Morris Hospital continued to expand services in 2015. Two additional obstetrician/gynecologists joined the Morris Hospital Obstetrics & Gynecology Specialists practice, bringing the total number of ob/gyns in the practice to six, serving patients in five different office locations. Practice affiliations were completed with an internal medicine physician and two neurologists, further expanding Morris Hospitals growing office locations. In addition, Occupational Therapy Services were expanded to the Morris Hospital Ridge Road Campus, and a new Gardner Healthcare Center was constructed, replacing the former office building. Ten new physicians joined the medical staff in 2015, including an ob/gyn, a psychiatrist, three orthopedic surgeons, an internal medicine physician, two pediatric cardiologists, an emergency physician, and an immediate care physician. “Schedule d, part x, line 2 morris hospital & healthcare centers, morris hospital foundation, and morris hospital auxiliary are separate not-for-profit corporations as described in section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code(code) and are exempt from federal income taxes on related income pursuant to section 501(a) of the code. Asc subtopic 740-10, income taxes - overall, addresses the determination of how tax benefits claimed or expected to be claimed on a tax return should be recorded in the consolidated financial statements. Under asc subtopic 740-10, the hospital must recognize the tax benefit from an uncertain tax position only if it is more likely than not that the tax position will be sustained on examination by the taxing authorities, based on the technical merits of the position. The tax benefits recognized in the consolidated financial statements from such a position are measured based on the largest benefit that has a greater than 50% likelihood of being realized upon ultimate settlement. Asc subtopic 740-10 also provides guidance on derecognition, classification, interest and penalties on income taxes, and accounting in interim periods and requires increased disclosures. As of december 31, 2015 and 2014, the hospital does not have a liability for unrecognized tax benefits.”
