“Part III, Line 1: Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers exist to provide healthcare in a general short term hospital in addition to delivering primary healthcare services in the outpatient setting. The mission of Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers is to improve the health of area residents. This is the focal point that steers strategy and decision making and gives meaning and focus to staff as they go about their daily work. As long as our actions and activities are focused on improving the health of area residents, we know that we are doing whats right for our community. We carry out our mission every day by serving the hundreds of patients who walk through our doors for inpatient care, outpatient testing, emergency care, surgery and rehabilitation services. There are so many other ways we carry out our mission daily beyond traditional hospital services, including our free patient transportation service, free exercise classes for seniors, financial assistance program, education and training for pre-hospital providers, student mentoring experiences, student career exploration, free health screenings, support groups and education programs. Theres also the behind-the-scenes support that we provide for community social service agencies, including preparing daily meals for clients of Mobile Meals, providing clean linens and meals for the local PADS, meals for St. Vincent Table, and monetary support for the Will-Grundy Medical Clinic and We Care of Grundy County.”
“Part III, Line 4a: Throughout the year, Morris Hospital furthers its mission of improving the health of area residents by participating in a number of community-building activities in collaboration with other organizations. Now in its 4th year, Morris Hospitals partnership with the Morris Community YMCA continued to thrive in 2018. In addition to covering half of the facility operating expenses, Morris Hospital holds its senior exercise classes at the YMCA and encourages graduates of Morris Hospitals Phase II cardiac rehabilitation program to continue their exercise program at the Y so they can maintain optimal heart health. Morris Hospital and the Morris Community YMCA partnered together in community events including an Easter egg hunt and Halloween event. As a Resource Hospital within Illinois Region VII Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Morris Hospital is licensed to provide initial education and continuing training for area emergency medical technicians and paramedics, working side by side with local EMS providers to ensure the very best pre-hospital care for local communities. Morris Hospital also serves as the Resource Hospital for Braceville Fire Protection District, Braidwood Fire Department, Coal City Fire Protection District, Dwight EMS, Dwight Fire Department, Eco Lab, Grand Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, Grundy County 911 Center, Kurtz Ambulance, Lisbon Seward Fire Protection, Lisbon-Plattville Fire Department, Lyondell Basell Fire Department, Mazon-Verona-Kinsman Rescue Squad, Minooka Fire Protection District, Morris Fire Protection & Ambulance District, Newark Fire Protection District, Reddick Community Fire Protection District, Seneca Ambulance, and Troy Fire Protection District, assuring that ambulances are appropriately stocked with supplies and equipment; that EMS personnel meet all of the specified licensure qualifications, and that EMS providers comply with standard policies and protocol. Morris Hospital staff also helps to coordinate area disaster drills working in collaboration with the Grundy County Emergency Management Agency. Morris Hospital works in collaboration with Morris Mobile Meals by preparing daily, nutritious meals to people of all ages and economic circumstances, including children, the elderly, ill, disabled and homebound. The Nutrition Services staff at the Hospital cooks and prepares the meals daily, which are delivered by volunteers from Mobile Meals. 8,862 meals were provided in 2018. While clients pay a nominal fee to Mobile Meals, Morris Hospital is reimbursed only for the cost of the food and related supplies so the meals can remain affordable for those who use the service, with Morris Hospital covering the staff time to prepare the meals. The Mobile Meals coordinator and volunteers for Mobile Meals come to Morris Hospital every day to pick up the meals and return the meal carrying cases. Morris Hospital is a significant partner of the Will Grundy Medical Clinic, which provides free medical and dental care to qualifying residents. We demonstrate our support by providing free use of office space each month, volunteer time from Morris Hospital employed physicians, a $10,000 annual donation and support of other WGMC fundraising initiatives, and free hospital services to clients referred from WGMC. Morris Hospital provides laundered sheets, blankets and towels for the local PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter), in addition to providing pick up and delivery service, all free of charge, along with Saturday and Sunday meals for PADS clients. Nearly 2,000 clients were served in 2018. Along with PADS, Morris Hospital helped fund a We Care of Grundy County mobile food pantry in 2018, resulting in a total of 20,000 pounds of free food for area families. The hospitals commitment to the mobile food pantries also involves providing the manpower to unload, stock and distribute thousands of pounds of food through employee volunteerism. Additionally, the hospital funded We Cares Fill the Pantry”
“Morris Hospital continues to provide financial donations at the request of a number of community organizations whose mission closely mirrors the Hospitals. The hospitals contributions help these organizations meet their goals of enhancing public health or relieving government burden. In 2018, over $35,000 was donated to Kendall County Juvenile Justice Council for their 5k run to prevent juvenile delinquency; Dwight EMS for their Camp 911, Joliet Area Community Hospice for their annual dinner; Seneca, Morris and Coal City High Schools for their post prom events; Bristol/Kendall and Channahon Fire for their fire safety materials; Angel of Hope for their golf outing; Guardian Angel for their annual gala; Braidwood Police Department for National Night Out; Starved Rock Regional Center for their 5k run for child development; and Coal City food pantry, as a few examples. At the request of area organizations, Morris Hospital provides personnel to offer their talents and expertise by serving as volunteer leaders on boards of directors. In 2018, this included the Chief Executive Officer serving on the Grundy Economic Development Council, Boy Scouts Rainbow Council, and Illinois Provider Trust board of directors, in addition to being a member of the Morris Rotary Club; the Chief Nursing Officer serving on the Board of Directors for Grundy Volunteer Hospice; the Vice President of Human Resources serving on the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, an employed nurse practitioner serving on the Will-Grundy Medical Clinic board of directors, the Vice President of Professional Services serving on the board of directors of the Joliet Area Hospice, and the Wellness Manager serving on the We Care of Grundy County Board of Directors. Morris Hospital collaborates with the Illinois Department of Aging by sponsoring local volunteers from their Senior Health Insurance Program. The program provides free health insurance counseling for Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers, with the SHIP volunteers certified by Medicare to educate consumers and answer questions about Medicare, Medicare supplements, prescription drug plans, and Advantage plans. As sponsor of the local SHIP volunteers, Morris Hospital provides space at the hospital for the volunteers to meet with community members seeking counseling.”
