The primary exempt purpose of spay first is to address the over population of homeless "street" animals that exist globally. We accomplish this through the research and development of non-surgical technologies to prevent the births of unwanted animales, while continuing to mentor the start-up of spay/neuter programs in chronic poverty. We work with municipalities and tribal agencies to prevent animal suffering. Our goal is to halt the use of eradication to address animal overpopulation globally.

IN 2018 WE ACHIEVED THE FOLLOWING: WE INITIATED TESTS ON AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO A PERMANENT CHEMOSTERILENT FOR FEMALE DOGS; WE CONDUCTED EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ON AN INJECTABLE PRODUCT FOR MALE DOGS AND DEVELOPED A PROTOCOL FOR A MULTI-PRONG STUDY TO EXPLORE LOW-COST CONTRACEPTIVES FOR DOGS TO START IN 2019. IN 2018 CATS WERE INCLUDED IN OUR THREE YEAR PLAN FOR THE FIRST TIME, WITH A MULTI-YEAR STUDY TO BEGIN IN MID 2019. OUR GOAL IS TO PREVENT THE BIRTHS OF UNWANTED "STREET ANIMALS' GLOBALLY THROUGH THE HUMANE PREVENTION OF UNWANTED LITTERS. HOWEVER, ENORMOUS COSTS AND LOGISTICS DEMAND LOW-COST, LOW TECH ALTERNTIVES TO TRADITIONAL SURGICAL SPAY/NEUTER SERVICES FOR MUCH OF THE GLOBE. “2018 was a turning point for spay first when our research on non-surgical fertility control options ramped up after hiring molecular biologist jeff kemp, phd as our chief scientific officer (cso) in october 2017. Our goal is to bring about a "doable" efficient and effective solution through science. In 2013 spay first began to shift the focus and resouces from surgical spay/neuter to the research and development of injectable, non-surgical fertility control options for unwanted dogs and other animals. Our efforts have joined compassion and science in one.”
