“OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Organizing: HIP builds a base of public health workers to use our voice, evidence, expertise, and resources to take collective action and build community power. In 2022, our Public Health Awakened initiative now consisting of over 3,000 public health professionals in all 50 states continued to support rapid response COVID organizing, hosted our first somatics workshops for public health folks with over 150 participants, and supported the ongoing movement to end the Title 42 order on migrants, among other campaigns. Our Health Instead of Punishment program launched an Abolitionist Public Health Student Network for public health students to learn more about abolition and work together on campus campaigns. Last years two student cohorts comprised 125 students from over 25 different campuses, who met to learn about abolition and organizing strategy and workshop their own campus campaigns. Advocacy: HIP amplifies the use of public health research, expertise, framing, and communications to support targeted campaigns and movements. In 2022, HIP brought the voice of public health to 75+ local, state, and federal campaigns by signing on to campaigns; speaking at press conferences and public hearings; organizing health professionals to make public statements in the context of legislative and administrative debates; helping to collect public comments about federal rule changes; and producing fact sheets and infographics to bring a health lens to policy making.”
“The Internal Revenue Service and the California Franchise Tax Board have determined that the Organization is exempt from federal and state income taxes under IRC 501(c)(3) and California RTC 23701(d). The Organization has evaluated its current tax positions as of December 31, 2022 and is not aware of any significant uncertain tax positions for which a reserve would be necessary. The Organizations tax returns are generally subject to examination by federal and state taxing authorities for three and four years, respectively, after they are filed.”

Our 2022-23 cohort of Health Equity Awakened Leadership Institute brought together 18 leaders from 11 health departments across the country to do leadership development and advance racial and social justice strategies for public health. We also deepened our long-term relationships with NACCHO and ASTHO, the associations representing local and state health departments, respectively, and published numerous new resources for public health both the field broadly and health departments specifically to improve their systems, policies, and practices to advance health equity goals. |

In 2022, our Public Health Awakened initiative now consisting of over 3,000 public health professionals in all 50 states continued to support rapid response COVID organizing, hosted our first somatics workshops for public health folks with over 150 participants, and supported the ongoing movement to end the Title 42 order on migrants, among other campaigns. Our Health Instead of Punishment program launched an Abolitionist Public Health Student Network for public health students to learn more about abolition and work together on campus campaigns. Last years two student cohorts comprised 125 students from over 25 different campuses, who met to learn about abolition and organizing strategy and workshop their own campus campaigns. Advocacy: HIP amplifies the use of public health research, expertise, framing, and communications to support targeted campaigns and movements. In 2022, HIP brought the voice of public health to 75+ local, state, and federal campaigns by signing on to campaigns; speaking at press conferences and public hearings; organizing health professionals to make public statements in the context of legislative and administrative debates; helping to collect public comments about federal rule changes; and producing fact sheets and infographics to bring a health lens to policy making. |

Sources of support. The Organization currently attracts support from government sources, individuals and community groups, and continues to expand its sources of support, particularly from governmental sources of support.Availability of public facilities or services. Most of the organizations program services are available to the broad general public free of charge; the remaining services are delivered to local and state government agencies to support their public services.
