Ehtp's university program (up) serving approximately 280 students (100 in middle school, 115 in high school, and 63 college scholars) in grades 6-college is a dynamic college readiness program, providing comprehensive support before and during a scholar's college career. In addition to core academic instruction in science, technology, engineering, math (stem) and english language arts (ela), up's college access and success program provides support for all aspects of college preparation as well as support through college graduation. During the school-year, our middle school participants are required to attend program four days per week for 3 hours each afternoon (m-th with additional programming offered on saturdays).at the middle school level, ehtp-up helps students gain admission to choice high schools and fully prepares 8th graders for the high school experience. The middle school program provides a comprehensive range of counseling and tutoring services to help students and families navigate this particularly challenging transitional period.middle school students are required to attend program 4 days per week, achieving an annual attendance rate of no less than 75%. The weekly program schedule includes: -5 hours of ela and stem instruction per week through participation in four-week cycles of intensive, common core aligned units of study taught by qualified lead and assistant teachers.-access to a lego robotics team that meets one time per week and competes regionally.-a school choice curriculum that includes moving up, a course to help 6th grade students transition successfully into their middle schools, roads to success, a tutoring program for 7th grade students, and a high school application workshop for 8th grade students.high school students are required to attend 3 days per week but many attend daily. High school students structure participation to fit their schedules, as they select up elective course and balance those with other after-school commitments such as sports, jobs, and internships. -a media studies program for high school students that reinforces verbal and written communication skills, helps foster creativity and self-expression, and connects to the issues affecting their communities through allowing students to direct and produce a monthly segment that airs on the manhattan neighborhood network.-a college access and success program, including: high school credit accumulation tracking, enrichment courses, regents and sat test preparation, college application assistance, financial aid coordination, mentoring and counseling. A college mentoring program pairs high school students with a volunteer mentor to guide students and their families through each step of the college application process. With the goal of having our high school students achieve an 80 or better on ela and algebra regents exams, ehtp provides content review and testing strategies through individualized and small-group instruction on saturdays. Students are also given the opportunity to take day-long or overnight trips to a variety of college campuses. Last year, students visited american university, howard university, and wesley college during a trip to the district of columbia and surrounding area. -a college scholars program that helps students make the most of their college experiences by providing academic and career advisement, tutoring, guidance on securing internships, managing personal finances and the financial aid process, and adjusting to college life and a new environment. Due to the significant lack of math and science programs and resources available at east harlem public schools, many students have little (or no) access to computer technology or individualized, hands-on instruction in math and science. As a result, many students struggle to learn even the most basic concepts in these subject areas. To encourage active minds and bodies during the summer months, summer program is mandatory for students enrolled in the school-year program and meets five days per week for five weeks.summer programin grades 6-8, the core stem and ela curriculum includes a school choice component to support the middle school transition for rising 6th grade students and the high school application process for rising 8th graders. Students take college campus tours and fieldtrips to cultural sites throughout the city, engage in social-emotional learning through "real talks" led by a certified social worker, and participate in creative and artistic expression through a weekly "showtime" talent show and weekly swimming at rockland state park.summer institute (grades 9-12)rising 9th-12th grade students participate in summer institute, a five-week program held at the hunter college school of social work. From 9:00 am-3:00 pm, five days per week, students take rigorous, college-preparatory coursework in math, writing, and film. The high school curriculum also contains youth development and character-building work. Students in 11th and 12th grade receive additional essay writing and sat preparation instruction. Students entering summer institute the summer before their sophomore year get the opportunity to experience college life first hand through participation in a one-week college trip (most recently tufts university) where students stay in dorms, take classes in lecture halls, and work on collaborative projects. Critical summer program successes in 2013 include:-88% overall k-12 attendance rate.-8% average growth on math assessments in elementary program.
