The mission of the shaker museum/mount lebanon is to engage and inspire local, national, and global audiences by telling the story of the american shakers. The commitments of the shaker museum/mount lebanon are to: steward the shaker material legacy-the museum's artifacts and archives and mount lebanon's historic buildings and landscape-through collecting, conserving, preserving, protecting, documenting, and restoring; create a museum at mount lebanon that fosters a community of inquiry, re-imagines how visitors interact with shaker history, and unites the world's most comprehensive shaker collections with the most important historic shaker site; and share with diverse audiences the individual and collective stories of the shakers and their contributions to society-including religion, equality, communalism, pacifism, design, craft, and technology-through innovative and collaborative programs, public media content, and exhibitions.
