“SLA utilizes the services of a management firm, The Coulter Companies d/b/a MCI USA ("Coulter") to manage the organization on a day-to-day basis. Management fees represent amounts paid to Coulter under the terms of an agreement for management services including all staff resources; delivery of SLA's programs, services, events, and website; provides for office space, equipment, and other resources needed to manage the day-to-day operations. Management fees totaled $1,309,164 for the year ended December 31, 2016. SLA's Executive Director is an employee of and was compensated by Coulter.”

The conflict of interest policy is always taken into consideration when there is the potential for conflict, particularly when signing new contracts or beginning new relationships. Any possible appearance of conflict of interest that arises in the course of business is researched to determine the existence of a conflict. If a contract is to be made with a related party, it is disclosed to the Board of Directors and a vote is taken to reach a decision. If the Association's staff members identify a conflict of interest, management shares this information with the Executive Committee of the board for its action. Involved board members are precluded from voting on matters for which a conflict exists.”

Prior to this, key employees were evaluated yearly. The process included the completion by the supervisor of a performance appraisal instrument, a self-appraisal, and comments gathered from employees. Top management positions were evaluated by the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors, led by the current year President. An evaluation form was completed, a self-appraisal, the capacity building model developed by McKinsey & Company was completed, and comments gathered from all board members and key staff. Compensation was determined using comparability data from the Washington, DC metro area, the ASAE compensation stufy of similiar positions, and any other available compensation reports that are current.”

The Ron Coplen Fund serves as a source of revenue for the Ron Coplen Leadership Address at the annual conference or other appropriate meeting. Earnings on these funds are considered temporarily restricted.”
