Activity 2

ACADEMICS1) The U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) awarded the School of nursing one of its largest federal grants ever. The grant will fund a new state-of-the-art mock operating room for graduate students enrolled in the University Master of Science and Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nurse Anesthesia programs. HRSA also awarded the School a $233,000 grant to develop a new geriatric simulation clinic. 2) Fairfield dedicated the new Kathryn P. Koslow Center for Marriage and Family Therapy - a service for the entire area community. The Koslow Center is a training facility for Marriage and Family Therapy graduate students is provides individuals, couples and families with clinical services regardless of their ability to pay. 3) The School of Engineering has upgraded its Mechanical Engineering teaching laboratory including a thermal-hydraulics laboratory, thanks to a grant from the Earl and Hilda Brinkman Family Foundation. The skill set students will acquire will be valuable for working in numerous industries. 4) The Graduate School of Education announced an innovative new program that re-thinks teacher education for undergraduates and offers the advantage of acting early to make focused choices about teacher training. The School, in collaboration with the College of Arts and Sciences is offering a five-year integrated bachelor of arts-master of arts degree teacher certification program.5) Fairfield has been awarded a $300,000 three-year grant by the U.S. Agency for International Development for a project in Senegal. Faculty from two Fairfield Schools will share co-directorship for the project that will leverage new learning technologies as appropriate for the local environment for teaching health education programs in that country.

Activity 3

EXTERNAL RELATIONS1) When Borders Books and Music Store closed its location in downtown Fairfield, the decision was felt deeply throughout the community. Fairfield University has taken over the location and will open a new bookstore/cafe operation in the prime retail space. In addition to the cafe, book and apparel sales, Fairfield University Bookstore will enable the institution to offer its resources and educational programs to the wider regional community.
