FUTURES PROVIDES TRAINING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO ADVOCATES, EMPLOYERS, WORKERS, AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS TO EQUIP THEM WITH THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO BETTER SUPPORT VICTIMS OF ABUSE AND EXPLOITATION.PUBLIC EDUCATION CAMPAIGNS AND PROGRAMS - SINCE FUTURES LAUNCHED THE VERY FIRST NATIONAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PUBLIC SERVICE CAMPAIGN, "THERE'S NO EXCUSE" IN 1994, WE HAVE LAUNCHED COUNTLESS EFFORTS TO BUILD THE PUBLIC'S CAPACITY TO RESPOND TO AND PREVENT VIOLENCE, INCLUDING SPECIALIZED AUDIENCES SUCH AS EDUCATORS, TEENAGERS, ATHLETIC COACHES, EMPLOYERS, AND YOUNG MEN IN FRATERNITIES TO NAME A FEW. WE CREATED THE ONLY EVIDENCE-BASED CURRICULUM PROGRAM ENDORSED BY THE CDC DESIGNED TO TRAIN AND MOTIVATE COACHES TO TEACH THEIR YOUNG MALE ATHLETES HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP SKILLS, "COACHING BOYS INTO MEN" (CBIM). AS WELL, FUTURES SPEARHEADS THE NATIONAL ROLL-OUT OF "ATHLETES AS LEADERS", A COMPANION PROGRAM TO CBIM FOCUSED ON ENGAGING FEMALE ATHLETES. FUTURES ALSO RUNS "THAT'S NOT COOL" IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE'S OFFICE ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN TO EMPOWER TEENS TO PREVENT DIGITAL DATING ABUSE IN THEIR SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES. WITH OVER 800 TEEN AMBASSADORS ENGAGED ACROSS THE COUNTRY, HUNDREDS OF PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS, AND SCHOOLS USING "THAT'S NOT COOL" MATERIALS, THE AWARD-WINNING WEB SITE REACHES OVER 1.2 MILLION TEENS PER YEAR. NOW IN ITS SECOND YEAR LAUNCHED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, "CHANGING MINDS" IS A NATIONAL INITIATIVE THAT CALLS ATTENTION TO THE IMPACT THAT CHILDHOOD TRAUMA HAS ON THE DEVELOPING BRAIN, AND MOTIVATES ADULTS WHO INTERACT WITH KIDS TO ENGAGE USING "EVERYDAY GESTURES" THAT CAN HELP A CHILD THRIVE AND SUCCEED.STRATEGIC INITIATIVES - IDEA INCUBATION AND DEVELOPMENT ARM OF THE ORGANIZATION, FUTURES CONTINUES TO STRIVE TO IDENTIFY CRITICAL SOCIAL ISSUES THAT CONTRIBUTE TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN, AND DEVELOP GROUNDBREAKING PROGRAMS AND CAMPAIGNS TO TRANSFORM SOCIAL NORMS AND CREATE NEW COLLABORATIONS TO SHARE LESSONS LEARNED AND DEVELOP COMPREHENSIVE STRATEGIES TO END AND PREVENT VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN.POLICY AND INTERNATIONAL - FUTURES HAS A VOICE ON ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF PUBLIC POLICY. IT HAS PROVIDED KEY LEADERSHIP ON ISSUES OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN THAT HAS RESULTED IN ADDRESSING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN THE MILITARY, IMPROVING OPTIONS FOR IMMIGRANT WOMEN, AND INCREASING FUNDING TO SERVICES THAT MAKE THE CRITICAL DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF VICTIMS. FUTURES BELIEVES THAT ENDING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IS ESSENTIAL TO DEVELOPMENT, HEALTH, SECURITY, AND PROSPERITY IN NATIONS AND COMMUNITIES AROUND THE GLOBE, THEREFORE CONTINUES TO PLAY AN ACTIVE ROLE ADVOCATING FOR POLICY SOLUTIONS SUCH AS THE VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN ACT IN U.S AND INTERNATIONALLY (VAWA AND I-VAWA). |
