Form 990, Part III, Line 1

Since 1965, northwest center has been a leader in promoting the rights and independence of individuals with developmental disabilities. Northwest center supports the creation of a world filled with opportunity for people of all abilities. To accomplish this, northwest center uses an integrative model to promote the growth, development and independence of people with developmental disabilities through programs of education, rehabilitation and work opportunity. This mission may be accomplished through direct services for children and adults or operation of inclusive social enterprises. Northwest center delivers an array of services to support children and adults. Northwest center operates and may acquire, divest, or expand a variety of inclusive social enterprises. For over 50 years, northwest center has been a leader in advancing equal opportunities to those with disabilities by providing early intervention, inclusive education, employment services and jobs. Our mission is to create a world in which all people at all stages of life have the same opportunity to learn, contribute, and thrive. Our services include early learning programs through our two preschools, birth-to-three early intervention services, school-to-work employment programs for teenagers transitioning into the workforce and comprehensive employment services for adults, including job coaching and placement. To help support these core mission programs, northwest center has built a family of businesses, each of which is a fully inclusive workplace employing people with and without disabilities. Northwest center staff is comprised of over 45% of people with disabilities.

Financial Statement Notes

Part X, Line 2:

NWC follows authoritative guidance relating to accounting for uncertain tax positions, which has no consolidated financial statement impact to NWC. NWC recognizes the tax benefit from uncertain tax positions only if it is more likely than not that the tax positions will be sustained on examination by the tax authorities, based on the technical merits of the position. The tax benefit is measured based on the largest benefit that has a greater than 50% likelihood of being realized upon ultimate settlement. NWC recognizes interest and penalties related to income tax matters in income tax expense. As of December 31, 2015 and 2014, NWC had no uncertain tax positions requiring accrual. NWC files an exempt organization and unrelated business income tax return with the Internal Revenue Service.
