Omni Nano is a public benefit organization devoted to nanotechnology education. We believe that by providing low-cost, top-quality nanotechnology curricula, we can better prepare today's students for their professional science, engineering, and administrative careers in the globalized, high-tech economy of the 21st century. Our curriculum is designed for high school and college students - for both in-classroom and online instruction, and focuses on the practical applications of nanotechnology to promote professional development and STEM career opportunities.
Omni Nano is a public benefit organization devoted to STEM education (STEM = science, technology, engineering, math). Our mission is to inspire today's youth to become tomorrow's scientists, engineers, and STEM entrepreneurs. Our goal is to teach students the STEM skills they need to get a great job. Omni Nano provides affordable and free motivational workshops and full courses in nanotechnology to schools, after-school programs, youth conferences, and other such institutions. Our materials are the only grade-appropriate solution to provide secondary school students with an eye-opening overview of cutting-edge science with a focus on problem solving using nanotechnology. We envision future generations of American students who are educated in and passionate about nanotechnology, who will ultimately make significant contributions for continued innovation and prosperity in the United States. | Overview: The Nanotechnology Curricula Project is developing comprehensive nanotechnology curricula for students at the high school and college level. This project brings educational materials for both students and teachers into the classroom as well as online learning environments. Our full package of digital educational materials includes our innovative and interactive textbook, syllabi, assessment and testing materials, labs and other hands-on projects, and other online learning tools. All materials are aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Our student-centered, hands-on curricula are designed to motivate college-bound and undergraduate college students to pursue STEM collegiate majors and professional careers. Our flexible curriculum is built as a modular series which can be tailored to fit instructors existing lesson plans and timetables, and can be made available in most common Learning Management Systems (LMSs) such as Blackboard, Canvas, and Moodle. These resources provide science teachers with everything they need to start teaching nanotechnology at their institutions, whether as a stand-alone class or integrated into another science class. And our curriculas mix of interactive and multimedia content with applications to real-world problems gives every student something to connect with.Progress and impact: While Omni Nano remains heavily reliant on volunteers and independent consultants, we have continued to make great strides on our curricula development year after year. We offer the only fully digital nanotechnology education package in the world suitable for teaching nanotechnology to high school and community college students. The entire first semester has been fully produced and revised based on our continuous feedback; the second semester is now in progress... | $38,237 | - |
| Overview: Through the Discover Nanotechnology Project, we provide free nanotechnology workshops to high schools, after-school programs, and youth conferences. These fun, hands-on workshops are designed to encourage students toward pursuing STEM careers by focusing on the practical applications of nanotechnology, which can be explained in terms of more general STEM concepts from chemistry, physics, and biology.Impact: As the end of 2018, we have conducted about 220 workshops, inspiring over 7,500 students and weve been invited to return by every host. We take pride in serving a diverse population of students including many from Title I schools, defined as institutions where 40+% of students are from low-income families. We strive to offer high-quality education to all students regardless of any factors such as location, socioeconomic status, ability, age, ethnicity, gender identity, or sexual orientation... | $15,174 | - |
| Overview: The Bridges to Nanotechnology Project brings nanotechnology courses directly into online, hybrid, and traditional high school and college classrooms. These courses provide an in-depth survey of the science behind nanotechnology with more opportunities for hands-on learning and STEM skill development. Our curriculas mix of interactive and multimedia content with applications to real-world problems gives every student something to connect with.Impact: Omni Nano is spearheading the rollout of nanotechnology courses and programs at several major institutions including the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD, the nations second-largest school district), University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), and West Los Angeles College. Courses based on our curriculum have been taught at over 25 American educational institutions. In 2018, we also launched online short-courses in both English and Spanish, which are now in use by over 1,500 enthusiastic learners, and created a proprietary translation tool that enables us to translate our content into the most common languages almost instantaneously.. | $7,283 | - |
