| Overview: The Bridges to Nanotechnology Project brings nanotechnology directly into high school and college classrooms. This progressive course is designed to inspire students toward considering a STEM major and professional career. Curricular objectives are designed to increase student responsibility and accountability through hands-on lab activities. Learners are engaged in knowledge creation using a dynamic teaching approach focused on professional development.Impact: In the spring of 2014, we taught our pilot class in partnership with 32nd Street / USC Magnet high school within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). As a public magnet school in the heart of Los Angeles, the diverse student population included students of many backgrounds, ethnicities, and socio-economic statuses. Our pilot Nanotechnology class was taught to 32 students. In Fall 2014, we taught a nanotechnology elective at the New West Charter School to a class of 30 students. Courses were taught based on teaching guidelines from the Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), which incorporates hands-on activities to stimulate students' creativity and curiosity. These two classes created an important precedent, based on Omni Nano's curriculum, that other schools can emulate. | $7,507 | - |
