The board president is also responsible for identifying any potential areas of conflict of interest with directors, officers, trustees, etc. And requiring anyone with such a conflict to recuse him/herself from decisions related to the conflict.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

Salaries for the organization's director and key employees are determined and specifically stated in home resource's annual budget. In general, salaries for the calendar year are approved at this time and remain unchanged until the following year. Any mid-year adjustments must be approved by the board of directors and documented in the minutes.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0DECONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS: WASTE REDUCTION, SUSTAINABLE BUILDING PRACTICES AND BUILDING A VIBRANT AND SUSTAINABLE LOCAL ECONOMY - HOME RESOURCE DECONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS DISMANTLE BUILDINGS BY HAND AND MAKE THE SALVAGED MATERIALS AVAILABLE TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH OUR RETAIL STORE. THESE PRACTICES REDUCE LANDFILL WASTE, ENSURE A FLOW OF AFFORDABLE MATERIALS, AND KEEP THEM IN THE LOCAL ECONOMY. IN 2016, THE QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF HOME RESOURCE DECONSTRUCTION PROJECTS, MATERIALS REUSED IN THE COMMUNITY AND NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES REMAINED STRONG, AND HOME RE SOURCE SHOWED THAT DECONSTRUCTION WORKS AT ALL SCALES BY TAKING ON A COUPLE OF LARGER COMMERCIAL PROJECTS. HOME RESOURCE'S PROFESSIONAL APPROACH AND TECHNIQUES THAT SAVE AS MUCH MATERIAL AS POSSIBLE IS HELPING GROW THE DEMAND FOR THESE SERVICES. DECONSTRUCTION SERVICES BY ALL OPERATORS CONTRIBUTES SIGNIFICANTLY TO ACHIEVING THE CITY OF MISSOULA'S ZERO WASTE RESOLUTION (SEE COMMUNITY SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAMS). DECONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS ACCOUNTED FOR APPROX. 29% OF HOME RESOURCE'S TOTAL MERCHANDISE SALES.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0COMMUNITY SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAMS: REDUCING WASTE, BUILDING A MORE VIBRANT AND SUSTAINABLE LOCAL ECONOMY, AND EDUCATING THE PUBLIC ABOUT REUSE. THIS IS A NEW PROGRAM AREA.HOME RESOURCE COMMUNITY SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAMS LEAD MISSOULA TO MORE SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND BUSINESS PRACTICES, HONORING THE VALUE IN PEOPLE AND MATERIALS IN MANY WAYS. IN 2016, HOME RESOURCE BROUGHT A ZERO WASTE RESOLUTION TO THE MISSOULA CITY COUNCIL WHERE IT PASSED UNANIMOUSLY, SETTING THE GOAL OF REDUCING OUR WASTE 90% BY 2050. HOME RESOURCE ALSO INITIATED A COMMUNITY CONVERSATION, WITH OVER 40 PARTICIPANTS, ABOUT REDUCING FOOD WASTE AND COLLECTED THE RESULTS TO PRODUCE "FATE OF THE PLATE: A BLUEPRINT FOR A FOOD-WASTE-FREE COMMUNITY." WE ALSO WORKED IN CONSTRUCTION AND DEMOLITION (C&D) WASTE REDUCTION: NATIONAL STATISTICS SHOW THAT C&D WASTE ACCOUNTS FOR 40% OF THE MATERIAL IN US LANDFILLS. HOME RESOURCE, WITH THE CITY PLANNING DEPARTMENT, DEVELOPED EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS FOR ANYONE WHO PULLS A BUILDING OR DEMOLITION PERMIT ABOUT THE ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS OF MATERIALS REUSE AND DECONSTRUCTION AND A HOW-TO GUIDE ON KEEPING C&D MATERIALS OUT OF THE LANDFILL. IN 2016, THE INAUGURAL ZERO WASTE AMBASSADORS PROGRAM (ZWAP!), AN EMPOWERING EDUCATIONAL ADVENTURE FOR ALL AREA 5TH GRADERS RUN BY HOME RE SOURCE, REACHED 33 5TH GRADE CLASSES (66%) COMPRISING 737 STUDENTS. ZWAPERS LEARN WHERE MATERIALS COME FROM, WHERE THEY GO AND ARE EMPOWERED TO MAKE CHOICES BASED ON FACTS TO LEAD OUR COMMUNITY TO GREATER SUSTAINABILITY. HOME RESOURCE ALSO LED AND FACILITATED ZERO WASTE MISSOULA, A GROUP OF VOLUNTEERS WORKING TO DEVELOP SYSTEMS AND EDUCATE PEOPLE TO REDUCE WASTE. WITH ZERO WASTE MISSOULA, HOME RESOURCE HELPED "ZERO WASTE" FIVE SIGNIFICANT PUBLIC EVENTS AND CATALYZED ZERO WASTE ACTIVITIES IN OTHER NGO'S AND BUSINESSES. HOME RESOURCE LED AND FACILITATED 15 EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS, COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS AND PRESENTATIONS ON ZERO WASTE.
