Mission

Home resource works with, in, and for the community to reduce waste and build a more vibrant and sustainable local economy. We collect and sell reusable materials, channel materials to those in need, provide meaningful work opportunities, and educate & inspire to promote a sustainable future.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Education: revamp program - an acronym for renewed, value-added missoula products. The revamp shop is our educational classroom and woodworking shop. In 2012, we partnered with several missoula educatonal groups to offer 15 home improvement and basic shop skills classes, reaching 82 participants using reclaimed materials available at home resource. Our education programs are opent o all but designed to meet the concerns and financial cpacity of low-to-moderate income individuals. We offer a sliding fee scale and class content is designed to address the most common concerns we encounter.
Activity 3
Work programs: in addition to providing retraining through the revamp shop, hr also provides on-the-job training opportunities to dozens of community members each year through a variety of partnerships. Education and job skills are some of the most critical factors for finding a good job in the missoula area, and lack of an education and/or job skills constitutes a significant barrier to residents finding and maintaining living wages and family supporting employment. These education and job skill factors are highly related to social issues such as high rates of incarceration and homelessness. Home resource serves as a premier internship training site with multiple capabilities in the retail, manufacturing, and construction and demolition sectors. These capacities, combined with a dedicated and thoughtful staff, provide a holistic training environment for individuals with barriers to employment. The internship these individuals will participate in at home resource will provide much needed jobs skills which will lead toward sustainable employment in the future.home resources work program partnerships include:missoula job service on-the-job training program: beginning in november of 2011, home resource partnered with the missoula job service in a program that offers job and skills training to people struggling to find work in missoula. In fy 2012 our site has utilized 2 participants for a total of 1196 hours.department of corrections community service program, partnering since 2010: in fy 2012 our site has utilized 110 participants for a total of 2039 hours.experience works program, partnering since 2007: experience works provides adults over 55 with vocational experience and skills to reenter the workforce. In the last 5 years home resource has trained 12 participants. In 2012 home resource trained 4 participants, who have contributed 2637 hours to hr.sentinel h.s. Vocational education program, partnering since 2009: this program serves to build effective vocational and social skills for high school participants who have physical and/or mental disabilities. Hr had a total of 13 participants during 2012. In fy 2012 our site utilized an average of 3 participants for a total of 319 hours.adult vocational rehabilitation program, partnering since 2010: this program serves to build effective vocational and social skills for adults who have physical or mental limitations who have been out of the work environment for an extended period of time. Hr has served 18 individuals over the course of the program. In fy 2012 our site utilized 3 participants for a total of 496 hours.volunteers:there are many layers of sustainability and resourcefulness that hr puts into action. One is the engagement of an active and diverse volunteer base. In 2012, hr worked with 158 total volunteers for a total of 1034 hours. The generosity, creativity, and hard work of hr volunteers is at the heart of what sustainable community looks like. Many of these volunteers have helped us with the day-to-day tasks of unloading, sorting, pricing, and displaying reusable building materials. Other volunteers come to us with specific skill sets which we identify and utilize on art or outreach projects, or on partnership projects like the building of playhouses for the boys and girls club of missoula fundraising auction. All of our volunteers are dedicated to furthering our mission and this dedication has greatly benefited home resource over the years. The efficient functioning of the store and other programs is a direct result of the many hours of time volunteers have given.long term volunteers: home resource has consistently hosted 3-4 long term volunteers that average 2 hours a week of service. In fy 2012 our site utilized an average of 3 participants for a total of 358 hours.
