The mission of path vaccine solutions (pvs) is to improve the health of children in low-income countries by accelerating the development of vaccines that will be effective and affordable for those who need them most. From initial discovery through clinical trials, pvs works with commercial partners, such as vaccine manufacturers and biotechnology firms, and nonprofit partners, such as universities and research institutions, to shorten the timeline for vaccine development.pvs works with partners to develop new vaccines by providing funding and expertise in preclinical development, manufacturing, and clinical development, with a focus on low-resource countries. In return, partners agree to terms that help ensure the resulting products are affordable and available in developing countries.

“The form 990 was prepared by an outside accounting firm (gelman, rosenberg & freedman, cpas), using information provided by path accounting services staff. Path senior management reviewed the draft form. A copy of the draft was sent to pvs's board of directors for comment. After the comment period, the chief financial officer signed and filed the return.”
“Pvs has a written conflict of interest policy under which all pvs board members and officers must annually complete a conflict of interest disclosure form. Pvs does not have employees. Pvs is a supporting organization to path within the meaning of internal revenue code section 509(a)(3) and contracts with path for management services. Path has a written conflict of interest policy under which all path board members, officers, and staff at higher than a designated level must annually complete a conflict of interest disclosure form. All pvs and path disclosure forms are reviewed and kept on file. A conflict management plan is developed for any employee with a significant actual or perceived conflict of interest. Path also has a well-defined procedure for identifying and reporting actual and potential conflicts of interest among board members. New board members are asked to complete a conflict of interest disclosure form within 30 days of joining the board and to complete a new form annually thereafter. In addition, members are reminded to report any new issues that arise outside of the annual disclosure period. The disclosure forms are reviewed by path's general counsel, and if any actual or potential conflicts are identified, general counsel makes a recommendation to the chair of the governance committee and the chair of the board for a management plan to properly manage any conflicts. A formal management plan is then agreed upon with the board member, and the entire board of directors is informed at the next regularly scheduled board meeting.”
“Pvs's governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements are available to the public upon request; most documents are also available online.”
“From time to time, unspent award funds (or unused obligations) may be returned to a funder for a variety of reasons including, but not limited to, early termination of a project by a funder or a reduction in funds required to accomplish a project's scope of work. -2,774,174.”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | PVS WORKS TO PREVENT DEATH AND DISEASE CAUSED BY DIARRHEA, PNEUMONIA, INFLUENZA, RESPIRATORY SYNCYTIAL VIRUS, AND POLIO AMONG CHILDREN AROUND THE WORLD. WE ACCELERATE THE DEVELOPMENT OF SAFE, EFFICACIOUS, AND AFFORDABLE VACCINES IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE GROUPS. IN 2017, PVS CONTINUED OUR FIGHT AGAINST DIARRHEAL DISEASES, THE SECOND LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH AMONG CHILDREN IN LOW-INCOME COUNTRIES. TO COMBAT ROTAVIRUS, A MAJOR CAUSE OF SEVERE DIARRHEA, WE CONTINUED CLINICAL DEVELOPMENT OF A NONREPLICATING ROTAVIRUS VACCINE CANDIDATE. THIS TYPE OF ROTAVIRUS VACCINE WOULD BE ADMINISTERED AS AN INTRAMUSCULAR INJECTION AND COULD POTENTIALLY OVERCOME THE LOWER EFFICACY LEVELS SEEN IN LOW-RESOURCE SETTINGS FOR ORAL, LIVE, ATTENUATED VACCINES. WE ALSO COMPLETED A STUDY WITH SERUM INSTITUTE OF INDIA PVT. LTD. (SIIPL) OF A ROTAVIRUS VACCINE ABLE TO REMAIN STABLE AND POTENT DURING EXTENDED PERIODS WITHOUT REFRIGERATION, ENABLING WIDER USE IN REMOTE COMMUNITIES. IN SEPTEMBER 2017, THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA ORDERED SIIPL'S VACCINE, ROTASIIL, FOR USE IN THE COUNTRY'S UNIVERSAL IMMUNIZATION PROGRAM. IN ADDITION, ROTAVAC, ANOTHER INDIAN-MADE VACCINE DEVELOPED WITH PATH SUPPORT, ADVANCED TOWARD WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION PREQUALIFICATION. WE CONTINUED TO CONDUCT EARLY-STAGE CLINICAL TRIALS OF VACCINE CANDIDATES THAT MAY PROVIDE PROTECTION AGAINST ENTEROTOXIGENIC ESCHERICHIA COLI (ETEC) AND SHIGELLA, LEADING CAUSES OF BACTERIAL DIARRHEAL ILLNESS. CURRENTLY, THERE ARE NO LICENSED VACCINES AGAINST EITHER PATHOGEN. WE ALSO ADVANCED DEVELOPMENT OF LOW-COST VACCINE CANDIDATES TO PROTECT CHILDREN AGAINST PNEUMOCOCCAL BACTERIA, THE TOP CAUSE OF SEVERE CHILDHOOD PNEUMONIA. IN 2017, WE BEGAN A PHASE 3 STUDY IN THE GAMBIA TO EVALUATE A PNEUMOCOCCAL CONJUGATE VACCINE (PCV-10) CANDIDATE DESIGNED TO BE AFFORDABLE AND TO PROVIDE PROTECTION AGAINST TEN BACTERIAL SEROTYPES THAT CAUSE MOST CASES OF INVASIVE PNEUMOCOCCAL DISEASE IN AFRICA AND ASIA. IN KENYA, WE STUDIED A VACCINE CANDIDATE WITH THE POTENTIAL TO PROVIDE LOW-COST, BROAD PROTECTION ACROSS MANY SEROTYPES. |
