Youth education - through hands-on learning, the erc inspires passion and empowers students with the knowledge, tools and confidence to become the next generation of our environmental stewards and leaders. Programs include in-school and after-school programs (spring exploration series, growing great minds, and science after school), overnight summer camps (ecocamp), and programs with collaborative organizations (local libraries, the hunger coalition, wood river ymca, and more). Youth education programs account for nearly 50% of the erc's work. Youth education highlights: growing great minds: teachers at any school in the count can request specialized programs tailored for their pre-k through 12th grade classrooms. This year, we helped over 1600 students get outside and gain the skills, knowledge, and interest to become better stewards of our environment. Spring exploration series: visiting experts from across the northwest deliver exciting, interactive presentations to all 2nd and 3rd grade classrooms in blaine county for six weeks -- reaching over 500 students. Evening presentations are open to the public. Summer ecocamp: we offer two week-long overnight camps for young environmental leaders. Campers gain essential backcountry and leadership skills while learning about idaho's ecology. Generous support from the community means that this year we could offer a total of 5000 in scholarships.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4D

Connecting people to nature - programs that instill an appreciation for our natural environment in residents and visitors and provide a venue for conversations on important environmental issues. Programs include birding and tracking workshops, snowshoe tours, nature walks, lectures, film showings, gallery walks, our annual street party for the planet, and more. In 2019, we reached over 1400 people in over 30 programs - a 2/3 increase in reach compared to 2018. Recycling outreach and action - in collaboration with blaine county's 5b recycles and clear creek disposal, this program conducts education on best recycling practices, facilitates recycling at community events, and offers a collection site for several recyclable items. In 2019, 10,000+ community members were reached in over 15 events. 3,330 gallons of glass, aluminum, and plastic were diverted from the landfill at local events. Additionally, over 800 pounds of batteries and electronics were collected at the erc office for recycling.
