Additional Explanations

Mission or Most Significant Activities

Founded in 1901, ChildCareGroup (CCG) is one of the oldest and largest non-profit organizations in Dallas and has been a United Way partner agency since 1923. Through a triad of services, ChildCareGroup provides kindergarten readiness education, child care, and practical support services for poverty level families, expands quality child care through training programs for parents and child care professionals, and creates access to subsidized child care for low-income families. In 1986, ChildCareGroup early care and education centers were the first in Dallas to be accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children(NAEYC). Today, our seven centers maintain and continue to achieve accreditation under the new standards required by NAEYC. ChildCareGroup advocates for children by encouraging legislation that supports safe, high-quality early childhood care and education.

Volunteers Explanation

ChildCareGroup is led by an independent and diverse Board of Trustees consisting of 23 community and business leaders. Trustees meet at least six times per year and actively support CCG with strategic planning, fundraising, and program planning and implementation. More than 50 volunteers assist with the planning and execution of our annual fundraiser, The Great Adventure Hunt. More than 750 community volunteers annually support ChildCareGroups various initiatives and activities at our centers. 100% of the parents of children in our centers participate as CCG volunteers. ChildCareGroup's early care and education programs benefit from "Foster Grandparents", who are volunteers from The Senior Source. Approximately 33 grandparent volunteers work in our classrooms each day. In addition, approximately 130 volunteers help organize ChildCareGroup's fundraising events and activities at our child care and education centers. Also, ChildCareGroup operates an Adopt-A-Center program in which Dallas corporate employees and community groups sponsor our centers with funding and/or volunteer support. Individuals donate thousands of hours each year through our Adopt-A-Center program. Volunteers read with our children, perform essential repairs and building projects, and provide stimulating field trips our students would otherwise never experience. Among the organizations that have adopted our centers are Alliance Data, Dallas Womens Forum, Montgomery, Coscia, Greilich, LLP, and The Patrick Crayton Foundation.

Part I, Line 19

The reason for the net loss that is reflected for 2013 is that the IRS does not include unrealized investment gains as revenue. If you combine the unrealized gain with the loss amount, the net income would be $3,866. See Part XI, Line 5, Reconciliation of Net Assets.

Child Care Assistance (cca)

CCA served 25,867 children in Dallas, Jefferson, Hardin, and Orange counties. In Dallas County alone, 22,719 children were served. Nearly 1,100 early care and education programs in Dallas County and Southeast Texas work with Child Care Assistance to help our communities fight poverty and develop young children. The value of direct care services for early care and education provided to the community in 2013 through our CCA program totaled $49,067,000.

HEAD START & EARLY HEAD START: CENTER PROGRAMS

ChildCareGroup partners with other non-profit organizations to deliver Relationship-Centered Child Care (RC3), our trademarked model of care. RC3 is practiced in all ChildCareGroup's early childhood programs and emphasizes a constant caregiver relationship. RC3 allows children to flourish in a home-like environment with mixed-age groupings, smaller child-to-teacher ratios, and curricula based on each child's individual needs. Through ChildCareGroup's holistic model of care, we provide a wide range of support services designed to lift two generations of a family out of poverty. In 2013, we operated six early care and education centers accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) located in East Dallas, Garland, Oak Cliff, and South Dallas. With important funding from Head Start Greater Dallas, Office of Early Head Start, United Way Metropolitan Dallas and other private funders, we served 541 children and their 624 parents through these programs every day. We collaborate with Bryan's House to serve 40 children with special medical needs and their siblings. All children were up to date with scheduled preventative and primary health care by the end of the program year. 100% of the children we served received dental care; 96 were diagnosed by a health care professional with a chronic condition needing medical treatment; and 6 were identified with a mental health services need. Treatment and services were provided to all children with identified needs. In the last year, more than 983 volunteers served more than 35,000 hours at our Centers. Every day, 33 "Grandparents" from the Senior Source volunteer their time in our Center classrooms. Funding for our Center Programs is provided by Early Head Start, Head Start of Greater Dallas, and generous donations from the United Way and other community groups, foundations, and individual donors.

Other Program Services - Community Education and Training

CHILDCAREGROUP'S COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND TRAINING CONSISTS OF PROFESSIONAL TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT, SMALL BUSINESS SUCCESS, AND OBESITY PREVENTION TRAINING. PROFESSIONAL TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT - In 2013, CCG provided training courses and workshops for nearly 1,850 early child care professionals, totaling 11,210 hours of training. We trained 466 child care professionals at our large annual training conference and 1,284 through training courses throughout the year. CCG helps child care professionals receive training in the latest research and best practices to meet the state's training requirements for entering and continuing in the early childhood profession. With private funding, CCG's Small Business Success Program provided training in financial education and business planning for 76 owners/operators of child development centers and family child care homes to help them increase their business and marketing skills to sustain their small business operations in any economy. OBESITY PREVENTION TRAINING - "HEALTHY START, HEALTHY CHILDREN" - CCG received private funding for our Healthy Start, Healthy Children Program, which provided early childhood obesity prevention training to serve 464 center directors, teachers, and staff and 3,407 children at 42 child care centers in Dallas County.

Other Program Services - Food and Nutrition Program

Through the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program, we served 190,562 healthy meals and snacks to 600 children in CCG's Early Childhood Care and Education Centers and 434,863 healthy meals and snacks to 1,500 children at 146 family day care homes. This program provides at least two-thirds of the daily nutritional requirements for a child with a healthy breakfast, lunch, and snack.

Other Program Services - Texas Home Visiting Program (parent Education)

In 2013, with funding from the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and other private funders, ChildCareGroup provided intensive parent education and one-on-one training to 245 children and parents through our "Born Learning" Home Visitation Program, a highly effective, researched-based education program. CCG was awarded the HHSC contract to design, implement, and manage the Home Visiting Matching System (HVMS), a comprehensive database linking parents to home visiting programs in our community. In 2013 the HVMS was launched, making 35 referrals which resulted in connecting 5 families to a home visiting program.

Other Program Services - Resource and Referral Program

Online traffic and results for our website, GetChildCareNow.com remained steady this year. In 2013, ChildCareGroup provided nearly 10,000 referrals for child care and received more than 1,000,000 hits and 37,000 visitors on this website providing resources and referrals in Dallas County and 42 surrounding counties to help them find suitable child care that best meet their families' needs. More than 500 additional referrals were made through personal interaction with ChildCareGroup professionals.

OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES - TEXAS SCHOOL READY!/OTHER

ChildCareGroup was awarded the Texas School Ready (TSR!) Grant for Dallas in 2005, which is currently practiced in 5 preschool classrooms in three of our Early Childhood Education Centers, and an additional 122 classrooms in greater Dallas.
