FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

Servant group interational (sgi) is a non-profit christian agency serving among at-risk and refugee communities in need. Sgi accomplishes its organizational purpose through outreach, education, and discipleship both locally and abroad. Developing programs to train christians how to meet and befriend their refugee neighbors is a primary emphasis. Sgi serves in tennessee among the population of refugees and immigrants from the middle east, south asia and africa by helping to locate housing, schools, health care, and jobs and by providing english language and sewing training. Sgi maintains and supports ministry among the kurds in northern iraq through training and deploying staff to teach at the three schools of the medes campuses, orphan care, and church discipleship. In response to the ongoing unrest throughout the middle east and central asia, millions of people have fled their homes, ending up as refugees and/or idps. Sgi has worked to establish and help support a number of relief programs throughout n. Iraq, austria, turkey, and africa. Most recently, relief work was organized after the severe earthquake in east turkey.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4B

Nashville, tn, is home to thousands of refugees and immigrants from the middle east, south asia, and africa. Sgi is able to provide translation services, citizenship instruction, job placement, medical help, food and other benevolence, english language learning classes and tutoring, urban gardening, and sewing instruction to numerous refugees. Training and equipping american volunteers to reach out to their refugee neighbors is a primary task of local staff members. With the help of 176 volunteers and 13 employees, sgi was able to grow our scope of services and provide assistance to approximately 550 unique refugees. Nashville-based outreach programs include distributing several thousand pounds of produce throughout the refugee community; helping unemployed refugee families with rent/utilities/toiletries; helping secure jobs for sewing graduates; and growing kani book club for the local kurdish community.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4D

In february 2023 a series of major earthquakes devastated eastern turkey. In the ensuing months, sgi raised nearly 90k in funds to help with relief efforts. These funds were primarily used to build about 200 temporary shelters for displaced survivors. Each shelter could accommodate a family of 3-6 persons, and several of our nashville team members participated on the construction crews that built these shelters.
