“Servant group interational (sgi) is a non-profit christian agency serving among muslim and refugee communities in need. Sgi accomplishes their organizational purpose through outreach, education, and discipleship both locally and abroad. Developing programs to train christians how to meet and befriend their muslim neighbors has been emphasized over the last several years. They serve in tennessee among the population of refugees and immigrants from the middle east and africa by helping to locate housing, schools, health care, jobs and provide english language training. Sgi maintains and supports ministry among the kurds in northern iraq through training and deploying staff to teach at the three (3) school of the medes campuses. In response to the continuing isis conflict in n. Iraq and unrest in syria and afghanistan, millions of people have fled their homes. Sgi has worked to establish and help support a number of relief programs throughout n. Iraq and in greece.”
“In iraq, sgi offers education and community development projects in the northern part of the country. Primary activities include teaching and implementation of a christian k-12 curriculum used to serve approximately 2,500 students enrolled in three (3) schools known as the school of the medes. Staff also serve families in their local iraqi neighborhoods through after-school programs, church activities and training programs. There is also an ongoing jail ministry to prisoners. In response to the isis conflict in n. Iraq, sgi has worked to establish and help support a number of relief programs including a school in camp xanke, business entrepreneurial endeavors, along with training for technical jobs, medical, food, shelter and clothing assistance for displaced families.”
“Nashville, tn is home to thousands of refugees and immigrants from the middle east and africa. Sgi is able to provide translation services, job placement, medical help, food and other benevolence, ell classes, urban gardening, and various cultural activities to numerous refugees. Training and equiping the local church to reach out to their muslim refugee neighbors is a primary task of local staff members. With the help of 175 volunteers and 8 employees, sgi was able to grow our scope of services and provide assistance to a growing number of refugees. The number of unique refugees helped was approximately 600. New local friendship programs include the summer "feed and read" to a large refugee apartment complex and the winter "lunch and laughter" - a refugee- hosted lunch engagement. A large fall festival, fall(afel) fest, was started in order to highlight sgi program services.”
“In response to the continuing isis conflict in n.iraq and unrest in syria and afghanistan, millions of people have fled their homes. Sgi maintained several projects in greece, along with national partners, to support refugees needing food, clothing, and medical assistance. We provided oversight and guidance to 15 plus team members serving approximately 75-100 in the refugee camps and shelters, along with offering translation services for several ongoing relief efforts. In turkey, we helped to support various christian refugee communities supplying basic needs including heaters, raised funds for business entrepreneurial endeavors, and partially funded a christian conference for refugees. A website, shop4refugees.com was maintained to encourage/facilitate funding of items needed by refugee communities in iraq, turkey, greece, and italy.”
